Ive been told i have great handspeed and ive felt a lot of improvement over the past couple months but i cant seem to coordinate my hips into my punches. I move my legs but dont generate a whole lot of power because of my stationary hips. Anyone have any tips or drills to help me get used to the motion? Much appreciated.
Ill assume we're disscussing a straight right from orthadox. Stance may be too wide, or maybe too narrow and knees not bent, maybe posture, hard to say anything without a video. maybe try lift both heels rather than just the rear to initiate the explosion for the shot, you activate all the best muscles when you lift the heel, lift both and it should kick start the pivot nicely with an even rotation of the hips. i do this more so if i want a straight right to return quick, it keeps my weight back and with good posture you have a firm skeletal base (spine) as well as muscular base (hams) and good balance to whip shots back in correlation to the direction they're going. the hamstrings are what need to be strong for a shot, otherwise the base can give a bit and act as suspension for the target during impact. not too wide a stance, knee's bent, quite a bit but not being daft, you should then have a solid base to strike from. Try bending your knees and turning both heels to get things going at first, if your posture is poor and is such that your slightly bending at the waist then turning the heels also moves your head.
Always good stuff coming from you Wayne, i've said before that people wouldn't be able to learn to box from reading a book but you're making me second guess that.... :good
I believe you've got to start nodding your head like yeah before you start swinging your hips like yeah.
A man?? Hearn's was no mere man.... OP try shadow boxing and punch without actually throwing your arms. Practise punching from your legs and then when you get the feet/hips working let the hands go.. if that makes sense?
