Switch hitters of the past

    educate me on some switch hitters pre-1940s era. I think that switch hitters more are more prominent in the modern eras but I can be wrong.

    They are definitely more prevalent today, simply because southpaws are much more prevalent.

    In the era that you are talking about, southpaws were usually converted to an orthodox stance.

    Interestingly in MMA today, switch hitting is almost seen as an essential skill.

    Jim Jeffries is often cited as a converted southpaw, but he actually seems to have been ambidextrous.

    He could write with either hand with equal facility.

    After he injured his left arm in the second Sharkey fight, he seems to have switched to a southpaw stance.

    I have never heard that of Wilde, but Midget Wolgast definitely was.
