I agree with most posts here that trying to box from both stances has its benefits obviously, but only if you have the talent and ability/time to master all the new angles/movements that come with it, then you must put in the time to perfect these extra angles in sparring also, i think the main deciding factor that defines which is better switching or not is time, if you have enough time to truely master the extra movements then thats great, however my suspition is that even if your extremely talented and have decades of boxing training under your belt, you will always find someone with more or talent that is on parr with yours, and if they have boxed from just 1 stance for decades then there could be problems, unless your the better boxer and can utilize the variety switching gives you to your advantage, to name another boxer that switched im surprised no one has mentioned prince naseem.

What was the name of that poster who was trying to teach himself to box and would post his youtube vid's of him in his garden hitting a heavy bag? The OP reminds me of him.

It has to be something you're born with..

If you have to think about switch-hitting or force yourself, you'll be doing more harm then good.

I am a switch-hitter, only because it was natural. I just needed to fine tune things.

Learning all the angles and when to use what took me about 2 years, and I'm still learning day to day. I'm naturally ambidexterous so, it's not so hard, just time consuming.

If you aren't able to throw switch hitting into a combination naturally, don't bother. Stick to your one good stance, it will benefit you more.

I fight with an orthodox stance but switch regularly to utilise different angles i think it is a natural thing to be able to use it effectivly but i think u should be able to use both stances,

it helps with your fluidity and variation, in my opinion

Hagler, Hamed. Dirrell and Ward in the future. Lots of top amateurs are switch hitters, Jones and Mayweather have been known to switch hit in fights.

Theres very few, Hagler blew it trying it late in his career. Hamed Ill give you, all his good work came from the right side. Its been about years with relativly little success, In the 70s the Cubans tried altering dominant stance with a little success. Some of my lads have done it with my blessing, because they had to make adaptions through injury. But the bottom line is the ocular cavity and eyes, which give nueromuscular habits that are hard to break.

I'm an excellent switch hitter, but, it does take practice. It helps if you're ambidextrous in other sports--which I am.
