    Correct.

Alvarez still has a long way to go to become a really solid contender (nevermind that silly strap he's wearing now) - it might take until his mid-20's to really peak...

    BUT

El Perro is one of the most overrated fighters of the last few years on here.

Somewhat above average power (not the murderous Julian Jackson kind that some people seem to think), and is the very definition of average in terms of skill. All things considered, his best win to date is Joel Julio - and while Julio is a decent fighter there are two styles that he simply can not cope with, and Angulo fits one to a T (strong pressure fighters like Angulo and Kirkland, and very sharp technical boxers like Dzinziruk and Quintana). Angulo is barely top ten in a so-so 154 lb division by my estimation.

I don't see any reason Angulo would not have a fantastic chance of upsetting the Alvarez applecart. Matt Hatton wasn't having too many problems finding him and Matt is average and has zero power. Alvarez is not skilled at all. Competent at best. Alvarez/Angulo is nothing but a fire fight, Angulo is not lacking in that department. In a lot of areas yes, but he's beastly physically.

What are your opinions on the upcoming Angulo Rhodes fight?

He is - and may have the edge in raw strength despite appearing a bit softer - but Alvarez has the much sharper punches, particularly the left hook downstairs. You're right that it would just be the two of them swapping ordnance without bothering about D - but that doesn't necessarily favor the guy with the fatter and slower punches, unless you have serious doubts regarding Alvarez's chin.

Rhodes isn't bad, but is too small and weak for Angulo (who also isn't terribly troubled by southpaws) and likely won't be able to keep him off.

Angulo gets to him sooner or later. I'd say Rhodes lasts longer than Yorgey but not as long as Julio.

I don't rate Angulo any higher than that either. I still think he'd have enough to beat Alvarez.
