Abdusalamov is definetly number 1, no discussions but Szpilka follows him directly. 16 fight. 10 th fight in HW. Only 24 years. 18 months of prison and facing directly unbeaten prospect Hadziaganovic with a brutal knockout in round 1. Names like Beck, McCline, Bidenko, Mollo, Minto. He and Glazkov fought the best opponents among all prospects. Next fight should be Manuel Charr.
Szpilka has not had a harsher critic than me. When his team turned down the chance to fight Bryant Jennings on NBC it had duck written all over it. As of yet, Artur has not fought a top 100 who he did not have a sizable speed advantage over. However, in the fights with McCline and Mollo, Artur has shown a massive heart and very good recovery skills. His wide open stance is gonna lead to a ton of KDs in his career, especially vs guys that can trade, but his ability to recover from monstrous shots and find a way to win those fights has made a fan of me. I won't say I believe he is a top 5 prospect, but he doesnt have to be for me to be a fan. Im just happy he's taking tough fights and not backing down. I'd like to see him calling out guys like Wilder. If Szpilka can take a few from Wilder and then land that counter L hand........the Wilder hype train comes to a crashing halt. There is no Szpilka hype train, so no worries if he doesnt survive the first rd.:think
I like Artur, and i beleive i'd like to see wilder tested by this young kid. Szpilka could get a good touch on deontay and then we'd see what the hyped up american is all about.
agreed. fun to watch but when you're going life and death with mike mollo that usually doesn't equal a bright future.
Szpilka definitly needs more time before taking on anyone in the top ten. I tend to think he's overhyped but def a lot of fun to watch. Adamek would school szpilka given an opportunity. Adamek easily took out the same faded Golota that beat a prime contender in mollo. Szpilka has problems with a shot Mollo...although he did look a lot sharper in the rematch.
This was Szpilka's 11th fight as a HW and his 16th overall. He's 24. We need some patience with him. He's definitely taking on decent battle tested opponents so far in his early career and making a name for himself to a wider audience. I think he will learn and progress and get rid of those nasty defensive habits (like dropping his right hand too much, when setting up the left) as a result of these experiences.
