Woah, woah, woah, wasn't accusing you of being a 'hater', just seems you take an overtly negative stance on Foster compared to most. His comp wasn't great; that's a given. But his ramrod jab and follow-up assault was good enough that I consider him a beast H2H at light heavy. Just to clear it up, I wouldn't accuse a poster I respect of being 'a hater':good
Yeah. I just can't see him catching Hearns with the jab consistently enough really; Hearns is better with both his legs and his arms, and has the skills to neutralise a jabber. The early rounds of Hearns/Hill, with both guys trying to beat each-other to the jab, counter-jab etc. involved a really deep display of skill which I haven't seen Foster demonstrate. I think Hearns would just be too classy really, staying on his bike and then eventually letting go with the power shots. The other thing is: Foster may be bigger, but Hearns is big too, and he wouldn't have to walk forward and risk getting caught up in big exchanges like smaller LHWs did. I think that could make it quite one-sided among other things - Foster would just have difficulty getting off at all. Good to know. I guess all these Duran threads have made me overly sensitive, heh.
Foster KO mid to late rounds. Tommy would trouble Foster but I don't see him having the punch resistence at this weight to survive, especially if we're talking 15 rounds. Foster's the bigger natural man. If he could blast out Tiger he could get Tommy out of there. Foster would catch Tommy at some point. Another point to consider. I can't think off hand of Tommy having the height (and possibly) reach disadvantage this much (if at all).
Hearns was a very good technical boxer at the weight, in terms of outboxing, but he's getting stopped for my money, Foster would trade the jab, and even if he didn't win that particular exchange, he's still closing the gap and slamming Hearns out of there at some point for me.
I agree that Tommy was the better fighter than Tiger. I just don't think he had the punch resistence that Tiger did. Certainly not up in weight. Besides, all that cash Tommy was making Manny Steward, I'll bet Manny had Mickey Goodwin and Caveman Lee washing Tommy's car ;-)
I don't think so. Tommy stuggled at middleweight with Hagler but Hagler was great. But all the other fights Tommy was a little uninspired and fighting waiting on Marvin and Ray rematches. He still won except for the Barkley fight, but if Tommy had the challenge and knew how good Tiger was, I think he would beat Tiger handily.
Roldan gave Hearns awful trouble, though. He did eventually take too many right hands, as I think Tiger would, but it's something to think about.
