Hearns would possess a huge stylistic advantage and either win a decision over a safety first Floyd or possibly catch him and stop him ..
What does that even mean? Other than I'm fairly certain you really have no idea who the guy is and I doubt very much you've actually watched even one fight of his.
Jesus, Floyd ducked a MIDGET for SIX YEARS! He'd never agree to fighting a man of Tommy's genetic make-up, no way. There isn't a SINGLE fighter that you can name at Welter that comes close to be the worst match-up ever for Floyd like Tommy does. Nobody.
The thing is, to beat Tommy at Welterweight, you had to take some risks and take some punishment to do so. Sugar Ray Leonard took a lot of shots in that fight. He was able to outlast Hearns, but it was no easy task. Sugar Ray was a natural 147 pounder with very good power and heart. He was extremely versatile. He could box when he needed to, and aggressively pursue and throw powerpunches when needed. Floyd does not have Leonard's strength and power at 147 lbs. At some point he would have to gain Hearns respect, as Leonard was able to do. Floyd certainly has the defense to last the distance with Hearns. But, I don't think he has the necessary attributes to outbox Hearns or to take him out.
Why don't you read the thread and see just how far off base most think YOU are. Most are picking Hearns either by a wide margin or by KO, and Benitez came very close to beating Hearns, and yet you called him a B- version of Floyd, so who's off base? :deal
Sweet post, I am not a fan of May weather, hell I wanted Canelo Alvarez to kick his behind, wishful thinking aside I can see Hearns winning a close decision as I stated in my earlier post But no KO.. Mayweather who I believe will turn 40 next year 2016, will officially be considered an elderly fighter, still fights and sounds good for his age, even thou he's lost a step, He's still number 1 PFP.. And 1 more thing, I don't know how Benitez made it into this discussion, but prime for prime Mayweather would have kicked his ass in my opinion..
So can we assume by that Leonard is only 5' 8" then, because when the ref calls them together for pre fight instructions Tommy is clearly a good 3 inches taller. Leonard claims to be 5' 10", and I must admit I find it a little strange that both would be lying about their heights.
Put it this way. I think it is fair to say Mayweather was still prime when he fought Mosley 5 years ago this month. No one will ever convince me that had that been Hearns who landed that shot Mayweather would haver made the end of that round. Tommy was a lethal finisher, and with those telescopic arms Mayweather isn't going to get close enough to hold on.
