Lewis was planning on ducking Vitali since he knew that would be the end of his career. Vitali had to sue Lewis to force him to fight.

    http://enquirer.com/editions/2003/02/21/spt_wwwsptsbox1d21.html

LAS VEGAS - Heavyweight contender Vitali Klitschko filed suit Thursday against the World Boxing Council in an effort to force Lennox Lewis to let him fight for the heavyweight title.

Klitschko's suit claims the WBC is violating its own rules by refusing to order Lewis, the WBC champion, to fight him.

Klitschko, the WBC's No. 1-ranked contender, claims in the lawsuit that Lewis has to fight him by June 8 if the WBC rules for mandatory title defenses are followed.

Lewis had been negotiating a fight with Klitschko, but dropped plans for the bout last month and announced that he would likely fight a rematch against Mike Tyson in June instead.

The Lewis-Tyson fight is dependent on how Tyson looks Saturday night against Clifford Etienne.

Attorneys for Klitschko filed the suit in federal court in Las Vegas, asking for damages and for an injunction that would force Lewis to negotiate a fight. No court date was immediately set.

The enquirer? Is that the celeb rag in the states? Not really a credible source.

Plus you clearly cant read. He was suing the WBC not Lewis. Lewis held more than just the WBC belt at the time.

I know Lewis wanted a rematch with Tyson. He had waited for ages for the first one and that was why he was still boxing for a while.

    I notice you missed this bit from the link;

Under WBC rules, champions must defend against the top-ranked or most worthy opponent at least once a year.

I dont define worthy as beating fat chris.

So in sum......your strange wave of smugness at the end of your post is misplaced.

Ok, so show me a link to ANYONE associated with the fight saying it was illegal. The WBC hasn't, Vittles hasn't, K2 hasn't, the announcers didn't, the ref didn't, the doctor didn't and Vitaly's mom didn't. Vits got beat up and his face severed fair and square. This is boxing lil man, its a rough sport. Try checkers if you can't deal with the brutality. :rofl

It was all over the news at the time - google it. Of course, you were still in diapers to know that.

For you information, Lewis only held WBC title in 2003. He was stripped of IBF belt a year earlier for refusing to face Chris Byrd who, incidentally, also had to sue Lewis to force the fight.

    :hi:

Lol at you saying Lewis ducked Byrd. Lewis fought Tyson instead who was the #1 rated and than Vittles. Had he fought Byrd instead you'd be crying he ducked Vits to fight the guy who made him quit. Give it a rest nuthugger, you can't change history or the fact of TKO6!!

Lewis ducked Byrd and tried to duck Vitali. Vitali fought and retired Lewis. It is as simple as that.

Actually you're a bit confused. Lewis beat Vittles and Byrd beat Vittles. Vits ducked a rematch with Byrd and Lewis rode off into the sunset beating every pro he ever faced.

Lewis lost every belt he held for ducking mandatory contenders and was forced into early retirement against his will by Vitali. These are the facts.

Facts huh? Tell me when he was stripped of the WBC belt? And why don't you look a little deeper into your facts and see who Lewis fought instead of Ruiz and Byrd. Paper titles are meaningless anyway. Its the fighter that makes the title, not the other way around.

Shot Tyson and Grant who McCline took out by the first shot he landed? :rofl

Lewis retired after WBC announced they were going to strip him for refusing to face Vitali again. That was the end of the line for Lewis since he knew Vitali was going to beat him anyway.

So you lied about Lewis being stripped of all his belts, right? And Tyson was ranked #1 as well as it being the biggest most anticipated fight at heavyweight. No one was calling for Lewis to fight Byrd. And Ruiz wasn't on anyone's radar. While Grant may have been overrated, he still beat a Golota who twice battered Bowe. That's better than anything Ruiz had done to that point.

Then stop whinging you Vitali fanboy. Lennox fought dirty to get the win against a difficult opponent. It's a tried and tested method in boxing that many fighters have employed including Vitali himself. Unless the ref or the sanctioning body makes a big deal out of it then it simply doesn't matter and the result stays the same and no amount of crying and bitching will change it. Vitali lost, Lennox won, end of, move on.

The illegal tactics Lewis used didn't cause the cut so it doesn't matter.
