Sanders did not hurt Vitali at all. If Wilder were the WBC champion, the haters would claim that he heavyweight division is the greatest ever! Wilder refuses to fight anyone ranked period. Wilder refused to fight Thompson............. I see all the hatred by so many children......................they know nothing about Vitali at all..............
I agree. If he was a black American he'd be regarded as an all time great. But, because he's a white European; bitter Americans automatically hate him and constantly bring up his defeat against Lewis. Which is kinda pathetic because losing to Lewis isn't exactly something to be ashamed off. Just shows the mentality of the average 'Murican' boxing fan.
who has he fought ??? washed up guys or tomato cans. the one time he fought a proper boxer... = TKO 6 !!
Vitali, fought an old out of shape Lewis, who obviously did not take this fight as serious as he should have. Vitali, always came into the ring in shape. Hasim Rahman, given the same the same fighter, knocked out Lewis with one punch. Vitali, in his near prime had his chance at glory. He failed. Vitali, was forced to fight a fighter with whom he did not have his usual physical size advantage over. His technique was sloppy, and he was shown to be easy to hit. The look of shock on his face when smacked by Lewis was priceless. Ultimately, Vitali has reigned over a division of woefully weak contenders. Given his chance at glory, and fighting an out of shape, past his prime Lewis, he failed and was TKO'd. Given the chance at facing an in his prime Lewis, he would have been laid on his ass. Vitali, is better then his glass chinned, weak willed brother.
Vitali would have knocked Lewis out! Vitali was not only winning on the score cards, but he had Lewis out on his feet, one more round and Vitali would have knocked Lewis out. Vitali broke Lewis' nose, a really bad break. Vitali staggered Lewis, but Lewis could not stagger Vitali. Lewis' promoter, signaled Lewis' doctor to stop the fight on a cut. Angelo Dundee (Ali & Leonard's trainer/cut man) said that Vitali was cheated out of the WBC title that night. Watch Lewis get staggered. Lewis was holding on to Vitali to keep from going down. Max Kellerman was sitting right behind Lewis' corner, said that he had never seen Lewis in such bad shape, Lewis was done for. Lewis turned down his biggest payday rather than fight a rematch. Vitali retired Lewis for good. After that fight Max became a Klitschko fan!!!!!!! Vitali took that fight on only 2 weeks notice.................
V. Klit ducks too. A prime Rahman and now he doung with Bermane Stiverne. He got Tko twice and ducks sometime. NO Atg in my book.
Rahman was finished at that time. Vitali retired because of injuries and then came back after four long years and stopped Sam Peter in the 8th round. Vlad stopped Rahman easily..................Oleg Maskaev knocked Rahman out two times. I think you should watch some of Rahman's fights back then. He had a problem and I expect you to know what those problems were. However, all the hate and prejudice against Vitali and Vlad proves to me how really good they are........
His whole reputation and credibility is based on 6 losing rounds against an out of shape Lennox Lewis who sliced him up and stopped him.
Lewis took that fight on only 2 weeks notice so Vitali does not get a pass for his failure on that front. He had exactly the same amount of time to prepare as Lewis did. Vitali wasn't hurting Lewis anymore. Foreman, who had been firmly behind Vitali pretty much the entire fight prior to that - saying a couple of times that it would only take one more punch for Lewis to be KO'd - specifically commented in the 6th round on that fact that Lewis had no respect for Vitali's power. On the other hand, since the 3rd Lewis had been landing the cleaner and heavier shots, and in the 6th he hurt Vitali so bad that Vitali was reduced to clinging onto Lewis and stumbling after him in the clinch desperately trying to prevent Lewis having the room to throw anything clean. When he was sitting his corner after the 6th round Vitali was gulping for air. Even without the cuts, the way the fight was going, Vitali was going to be stopped. He'd gassed himself with the high pace he'd set from the 1st, he wasn't hurting Lewis and was taking massive shots in return. The HBO team that night was almost entirely behind Vitali. They wanted to see the upset, they wanted to see the Heavyweight King dethroned by the unfancied contender, and they saw what they wanted to see. They called it as if it was a one-sided fight that Vitali was dominating, but its obvious to anyone that it was a competitive fight which neither man dominated. The most obvious example of HBO's bias being that gem of comment in the final minutes of the 6th as Vitali is falling all over Lewis while Lewis is trying to back off and get room to throw something and they say "it's all Lewis can do to stand up" as if he didn't have a giant Ukranian leaning all over him, as if he wasn't the one trying to throw more punches, as if Vitali wasn't the one trying to clinch to see the round out. And a Lewis/Vitali rematch would never have made Lewis more than his fight against Tyson had. Nobody outside of boxing had ever heard of Vitali, and none of them would have given a damn about a rematch, but Tyson was a household name and a superstar that crossed genres. Lewis/Tyson was the highest grossing fight in PPV history until 2007, Lewis/Vitali 2 would not have matched that.
Vitali has fought no one but fat plodding bums. The only two good fighters he faced beat him. TKO9. TKO6. Nuff said.
BAM. Against B and C level opposition - dominates. Against A level opposition - loses. Ok, that's a little harsh, but it's a fact. Vitali is (was?) good, no doubt. Very difficult to beat. But nowhere near as good as his statistics would have you believe. When stats are THAT good, it's a clear indication of a weak era.
Exactly. He did certainly get Lewis' attention in the 2nd with the right hand, but as the rounds wore on Lewis was walking through Vitali's shots. So few ever mention this but I'm glad you did. It's clear who was carrying the heavy artillery at that point, and it wasn't Vitali. Sorry. We can speculate all year as to what would have happened in the 7th. My guess? Not much. Both were exhausted and I would not be surprised if both men, by silent agreement, did not take the round off and resume hostilities in the 8th. What Vitali's face would have looked like by then, God only knows though. You know, the funny thing is that I was supporting Vitali in that fight and wanted him to win, but over the years all this BS from Klitschko fans has turned me against them. (As well as some of Wlad's performances.) Anyway, TKO6.
