On The Rags should be the new username for this crying snowflake. TKO6, a knighthood and hugely successful life after boxing goes to - Sir Lennox Lewis.
You could sense the frustration when VK kicked at Sir Lennox as he graciously offered a hand to help VK off the canvas. Must have thought he was back in with Pele Reid.
Here's the problem you have. In one breath you're claiming Vitali quit against Byrd because he knew his body couldn't handle it anymore because the injury was so bad that he couldn't fight, then in the very next breath you're claiming Byrd "broke his will". If Byrd "broke his will" that means Vitali was still physically able to fight on but didn't want to because Byrd was too difficult an opponent and he was intimidated by him. You cant have it both ways. You're jumping through hoops trying to claim both that Vitali was justified to quit but that Byrd forced him to give up, that the injury was so bad he couldn't continue but that he quit because he was afraid of Byrd. One argument undermines the other. On the night that they fought all those years ago it is a simple unavoidable fact that Vitali wasn't good enough to get the job done. He hit Lewis with everything he had and the best he could do was wobble him in the second, and he was beaten to a bloody mess by Lewis in return. That night in 2003 Vitali wasn't good enough. This doesn't mean it would always be the same. It's perfectly possible that, on another night, Vitali could have won. Personally I felt that fight was more or less a meeting of equals and neither man proved to be the superior fighter overall and I could easilly have imagined them trading wins if they had fought each other more time. This doesn't change the fact that the deciding factor in the fight they had was Lewis's superior punching power. And it doesn't matter for the TKO6 debate whether you think Lewis's power is vastly overrated and that he didn't do enough over his whole career to be considered a big puncher in your eyes. On that night, in that fight, he had the power to hurt Vitali and tear his face apart and that's what won him the fight. Also, there were only 6 rounds fought in Lewis/Vitali while there was 9 fought in Byrd/Vitali. It is hardly a accurate to claim Vitali had "equal domination" of those fight due to Lewis and Byrd winning the same amount of rounds when one fight was three rounds longer than the other. Bull****. The referee job is not just to ensure that the rules are being followed but it is to step in to stop the fight if he thinks a fighter's in danger of taking too much punishment that will cause long-term health problems. The Doctor's job during the fight is to monitor and evalutate both fighters and to step in if he thinks a fighter's health is going to be endangered by continuing. Nobody wants to see another Gerald McClellan or Michael Watson and it would criminally irresponsible of the boxing authorities to allow someone to fight on when they know they're in no fit state to do so without suffering potentially irreversable damage. Boxing is a combat sport so of course tradegies like Scott Westgarth and Nick Blackwell still happen when the extent of the damage suffered is missed but we are far beyond the stage where it should be considered acceptable or preferable for a man to die in the ring rather than have a fight stopped for concerns of the fighters health.
This content is protected Im one to agree that Klitchko would have won, Vitali knocks Lewis out eventually. its clear he still wants to fight and could if he really wanted. I think Lewis knows he was lucky and it shows here.
Vitali beats Lewis in a chess match, Vitali actually plays with world class elite chess players ranked high by FIDE, Lennox plays with casuals, thats the difference. I am sure Lennox will find a way to scratch Vitali’s eye using the Queen chess piece.
I'd imagine this is going to open up a lot of old wounds on this site. Vitali is still super salty that he got stopped whilst a whole 2 rounds ahead at the half way point and his fans even more so.
vitali looks decent for his age. iwonder if you gave him a 3 month training camp if he could take out bottom top 10 guys like brezeale and miller still?
Vitali has a soft spot for lewis, he's very friendly with him I find every time you see them together. Did you see where Lewis was introduced to the crowd and there was past champs sitting down ? Vitali was already seated and when Lewis was looking for a seat, Vitali tapped the seat next to him as if to say "you sit here near me"..I found it hilarious that a monster could lower his guard and you could see the boy in him...Zero attitude
