Look...I agree with what you say about picking the BEST option for a fight of this magnitute vs what will make the most money. but at the end of the day it's about them dollars for those putting on the fight. Shane wasn't the best option but the best option was on vacation. So I hear you when you say without saying...that PAC is partilally to blame...right along with his promoter for putting this fight on. But, Shane controls Shane...he could have given more of an effort to make the fight exciting and to actually TRY to win. But no man can control anther mans action or reaaction. The fight was shitty! But I find it hard to put the majority of the blame on PAc b/c he came to fight and did his best to give the fans what they paid to see.
We can go back and forth all day for the next 12 pages about the effectiveness of cutting off the ring on a "running" opponent, but we're arguin apples and oranges here.....the main point Ive been tryin to drive home is that no matter how good u r on cutting off the ring, it's not gonna prevent the other guy from keep on keepin on running. The title of the OP was tactics to use to "prevent" running. The reason being is that runners make for a shitty fight and in my case a shitty fight party. Someone posted a Roy Jones fight earlier fighting a "running" opponent and if you watch it you see some similar things from the Pac/Shane fight. You see Roy stalking, occasionally lunging and missing, getting reckless...and lookn bored. Only Pac doesnt have Roys reach, height, and weight advantages. Sure Roy got a 2 rnd tko....but watch the fight---you have one guy scared to throw a punch, who went down on the slightest touch. If that guy had Shane's chin and craftiness that fight would have been a 12 round snoozer instead of a 2round one. Would you have paid 65 dollars for that? It seems like you're graspin for straws here. You see an opportunity to jump on Pac's game and you go for it as if it has any bearing on a future Floyd fight. You've convinced yourself that Pac is clueless cutting off the ring while subconsciously saying that Pac actually could cut off the ring well enough and ko Shane if he were more motivated (unknowingly or not, you've pretty much conceded this with your post above on Pac effectively pressing the action in rd 10+). Ive already stated that pac gotlulled to sleep in those midrounds, not to mention his leg problems. But no matter how u spin it, my point stands. Cutting off the ring doesnt prevent running...it doesnt change someones mentality. Even if you have someone cornered, he doesnt automatically transform into Erik Morales and start throwing punches back. He's still a spoiler who will more than likely initiate a clinch, slide out, or circle away. In regards to a future Floyd fight...its not enough to say "Pac couldn't shut down a "running" Boxer Puncher. What is going to happen when he faces a guy for whom "sticking and moving" is his bread and butter and he can do it like second nature WITH offense? Pac is going to lose."...that doesnt qualify as an end-all to the argument. For one, from my vantage point, it seemed to me Pac did shut down a "running" Boxer puncher. The judges seems to agree with me. Thats like me saying Floyd got buckled by Shane, what will happen when a more dynamic puncher like Pac explodes one on his chin.....see it doesnt work that way. Im not gonna sit here and tell you Floyd loses automatically. Obviously I feel Pac will win, but yes, I'm open to the possibility of Floyd potshotting his way to a decision. Its called objectivity, you should try it sometimes.
Pac's "limited" offense was good enough to reduce a "warrior" like Shane to get on his bike. Dayam, for someone with such amateurish skills who gives up height reach and weight every time he fights, u wonder how he's been bitchin' all these guys. Oh yeah thats right, it must be that A-side mef.
Ive sparred 100 rounds with Sugar Ray and played tag with that clumsy ***** Michael Vick and he couldnt catch me...I know what Im talkn about.:rofl
Still, Pacquiao should take some fault for the fight. He is pfp #1 and looked average against a Shane he should've fought a few years ago right after he beat Marg!(The last part applies to Floyd as well since he fought an inactive Shane)
Not really. You just don't see the point. The point being, If you are an effective fighter a man who is in those ropes running will be tracked down and dealt with. For you guys to say "running" as though this isn't in the context of a ring and Boxing speaks more the the general Pac fans ignorance of the sport of Boxing. Dudes end up in the ring over matched all of the damned time. You better know how to "run" because you never know when that day may occur. Sometimes surviving IS winning. Then for you to use RJJ as an example then go on to say RJJ sparked him. That is why RJJ is a better fighter. That fool could only keep it up for two rounds before RJJ caught up to him and sparked him. Why? RJJ had the goods. Pac doesn't. Me? Look all over the damned web! Is Jeff Mayweather grasping at straws too? IMHO, this exposed Pac for what many have said all along. He is a one dimensional fighter who fights one dimensional opponents in action packed brawls. Casual fans, like you, like that crap. IMHO it isn't Boxing. It is tough man. Subconsciously? So did that fight occur in my subconscious now? Pac got lulled to sleep now? Did you hear what Larry Merchant said to SSM when he told him "I got tight."? I think you should go listen. Yes your point stands... In a circle of people who have never Boxed in their lives or go to a crap gym where they teach you to run into each other and punch with reckless abandon. If you have someone cornered he is going to be punched, punch back, or expend tons more energy evading wearing himself out. The sad part of you saying this crap is that this is a tool in EVERY PRESSURE FIGHTERS' tool chest and you are too blind to know it. This is Boxing. Nothing is 100%. That considered? That is what any REAL Boxing fan watching that fight saw. Ask anyone who isn't a ******* and they will ALL say... The Pac that showed up that night will get schooled by Mayweather. Hell half of you *******s were selling how this will show why Pac is so much better. That line of thought was shut down QUICK. The judges were idiots. How in the hell does a guy get 120 on two score cards when he was knocked down? Only judges in ******* land. It does work that way and I think FMJ stands a great chance of being put on his ass so should not play the same game with Pac. You see, I am an actual reasonable Boxing fan. So watching this and all of Pac's recent fights we see, he can't do much on the inside and he is befuddled by movement. So yes, there is a chance Pac can win, but all things considered? Chances don't look good.
Right. I was foolish thinking it would be a decent fight but I knew Pacquiao should come out the winner. It hurts boxing for these fighs to continue to get made especially since it's more common to have the old guy beaten and look bad oppose to a Hopkins/Pascal or Morales/Maidana performance. Agreed. All of this running talk gets blown out of proportion. Manny couldn't cut the ring off against someone who was about 7 years his elder and faded as hell. Sad. :happyTHANK, YOU! It's also silly to give Shane all the flack when he's been in much better fights most of his career. He's old as dirt now and doesn't have it in him to do what he once did. He has offensive talent but he needs to get more patient. His cleanest shots were single shots and if he just stuck to that it would not have been as hard for him. It's impossible for him to learn how to cut off the ring at this stage of Pacquiao's career but it's sad that he couldn't even cut off the ring of a 39 year old who's not known to be a mover or cagey yet Shane looked pretty godd defensively against Pacquiao despite the overexaggerated running. It's easy for Pac huggers to say it's all Shane's fault but I blame both(Shane has had wars so lets remember those more not his shitty recent performances). I laugh at these so-called boxing fans criticisizing Shane though he's very, very faded and never should've fought Pacquiao in the first place. His cherry picking ass team. Even against Hakkar Hopkins used patience, something Pacauiao lacks, and found his shots despite facing a fighter that was pretty negative in much of the fight. With better focus he would not have had as many problems against Mosley but he should have himself to blame for not properly cutting down the distance.
If I'm gonna fault Pac...is that he he fought overly cautious. So yeah, in that sense I agree. All that talk about Shane's counter right got him thinking too much. But you see it's a no-win situation...Pac's held to this standard where it's not enough to just win, he has to do it spectacularly. So he grinds out 12 rounds against a running opponent and he gets crucified?....have u ever seen a fighter all apologetic after a fight? I mean **** this was a guy that won every round. So now after one fight he's back to being one dimensional? Whats that say about Pac's opponents that they cant figure out this one dimension? Is it so hard to say that Pac is more dynamic then u think? Now lets look at the knockdown, Pac feinted hard which momentarily froze Shane, then followed it immediately with a short and compact 1-2. It was a perfect sequence. How many dimensions would you consider that?
Stop fighting old, shot, washed up, damaged goods fighters and Mayweather leftovers. Those washed up fighters are in there for a payday and not to win.
Yes you could, but you would be wrong. If you effectively control distance and stay out of harms way AND THROW NO PUNCHES you will still lose every fight. In Boxing you have to look BEAUTIFUL to win a round without punching so it has to be a combination of controlling the pace AND throwing solid shots. So in every case a fighter MUST include effective offense in his arsenal. It is both, but at the end of the day you either need to win by volume of PUNCHES or more effective PUNCHES. Me and the entire Boxing world have the same standards for FMJ. I never once said I felt Manny was losing rounds. I said he looked like crap and if Shane was throwing his right Pac may have been losing rounds. A similar "no hoper"? Is that what SSM is now? Then why did Pac even make the fight? I think if a guy uses this game plan, it turns out the exact same way. Worse if the guy actually is a prime opponent that can throw back. It is the reason why Pac has avoided Pure Boxers his entire career. I like strategic fights. Especially those where guys spoil the other guys' style. You seem to be the "tough man" fan. So "boring" is relative. RJJ would catch a guy. RJJ left too many openings NOT to throw when cornered. He would then proceed to spark him. True he isn't, but anyone who knows Boxing and saw that fight thought the same thing. What high horse? YOU are presenting Pac as some "great" while at the same time saying the fact that he couldn't track down a washed up fighter is "not his fault". That makes no sense in any person who has Boxed mind. Doubly so given Mosley's last two performances! SSM impressed me by controlling the tempo of the fight. Being a Pressure Fighter is the PERFECT style to beat a Pure Boxer. The problem is this only holds true... if you can walk the runner down. Pac couldn't. Other people are hitting you on the SAME things as me. How do I know you haven't Boxed? I don't know anything, but it is hard for me to believe that anyone who has spent a good 6 months in a Boxing gym doing actual Boxing training thinks "the other guy running" is a valid excuse for you not getting off. If that happens, you track his ass down using a very specific set of rules. How did those rules come into being? Because guys running scared has been a part of Boxing since it started. If you don't know that? It is hard to believe you have ever Boxed. If you did? You had a crappy coach. :conf Manny was literally an active counter punch away from losing that fight. Shane was controlling damned near every round in the ring generalship category. All he was missing was throwing his right hand. They are! How do you get 120 (perfect sweep) when you got knocked the hell down? Max he could get was 119 or 118 if they still scored the round for Pac. If you say judges should now start overruling referees so the score "makes sense" then... Yeah you should stop here.
