Complete and utter bollocks I tell ya! You don't just shell up and not answer 30-40 punches without firing back and not expect a referee intervention, it's kind of like in the rules......

Like I said, Takam must have eaten close to 40 shots during that sustained assault by Joyce and he was hurt, on unsteady legs, and Joyce was hitting him at will with nothing whatsoever coming back at him.

Takam threw seven punches in total in that round after being hurt right at the start of it and Joyce immediately pounced on him and didn't let up punching for at least 40 seconds and most importantly Takam had completely stopped throwing back for the last 25 seconds of the fight and was being hit at will. Very good stoppage. If Takam had been brutally KO'd or something even worse had happened to him the ref would be getting crucified today for not jumping in sooner.

Scraping at the bottom of the barrel here. We are not discussing if it is not too bad, or whatever. Is it indicative of a world level operator that his marquee win is an ancient and shot Tony Thompson? Definitely not.

All 3 judges had Takam up , rightfully since he was landing that right hand so easily. The ref had to stop it first opportunity he could or else there was a chance Takam could coast to a points victory. Forget the bias BT commentary - Josh Taylor was right, horrible night for Joyce.

Takam wasn’t doing anything against AJ. Takam was up on all 3 judges scorecards, Joyce needed saving or there was a danger of him losing on points.

    He didn't just shell up.

He was moving forwards, trying to keep close with a high guard and moving to avoid shots and roll with them. Exactly what a fighter is taught to do when weathering a storm.

That's a real good post Double B. I have a lot of respect for fighters like Takam, they play an important role in boxing. Takam always shows up in good shape and gives an honest effort. He seems to fade in in big fights, but a lot of that is due to the pace he sets. Back to the topic, I thought it was a fair stoppage.

Takam was winning this, but it's clear he wouldn't have been able to keep this up for long.

Joyce would have either KO'd at some point or won more and more rounds.

Takam was finished. He was taking too much punishment and not replying.

Takam is a road warrior who deserves the chance go out on his shield, Joyce likely would have stopped him eventually, but that's not grounds to stop a fight.

Takam reminds me of Kevin Johnson who complains constantly when his fights get waived off. You cannot just be durable and eat shots and expect to not get waived off because you're surviving.

If you just get hit constantly without reply and it's obvious you're hurt, the ref has the right to waive it BECAUSE IT'S NOT LONGER A ****ING FIGHT!

    It's not a bad stoppage.

Takam is a road warrior but he was hurt, on unsteady legs and was being hit at will and didn't throw a single punch back for about 25 seconds. I don't see the stoppage as controversial at all.

I would agree had he already gone down or if he wasn't blocking a good portion of those shots. He looked alert and was trying to ride the storm out. Anyways, it probably wouldn't have changed the end result, but Joyce's victory wod have been more convincing. I just hope Granados isn't victim to an early stoppage himself this weekend, because he's definitely capable of riding the storm out, and is definitely capable of staging a rally later on.
