Then why did Takam pull out of the Ortiz fight and never beat anyone better than Tony Thompson 9-3 in France, who Ortiz shut out in KO'd in 6? (no one else other than Wlad stopped Thompson in 46 fights) Why did Takam lose to Gregory Tony and never knock down or knock out ANY of his 10 best opponents (Perez, Thompson, Povetkin, Parker, Joshua, Chisora, Forrest, Joyce, Makhmudov, Yoka), whereas Ortiz KO'd Jennings in 7 (better than Takam: Jennings beat Perez and gave Wlad and Joyce decent fights over 12), Martin in 6 at 42, dropped Scott x3, Allen in 7, Cojanu in 2, Kayode in 1, Page in 8? Didn't you also pick Joshua-conqueror Ruiz to stop 43 year old, 2 KO defeat Ortiz, not go 12 and lose most of the rounds on the cards?
Takam was more skilled and athletic than Duhaupas and Stiverne but a lower risk fight because unlike Takam, Duhaupas had size, chin, determination and Stiverne had power, chin, determination. If Takam had KO'd undefeated Helenius or top 10 Arreola it would easily be his best KO win. He has proven totally unable to take things out of the hands of the judges, which above a certain skill level means a guaranteed loss for him.
"Yoka struggled with Dave Allen" He struggled less than Dillian Whyte did. It's a very good win for Takam at this stage of his career: he was a 5/1 underdog against a notorious A-side fighter and Olympic medallist with a massive height advantage and far fewer miles on the clock. Bakole is in or around his prime and Takam did almost as good a job on Yoka at 42. Takam also beat Forrest (who Zhang and Hunter drew with) and drew with Perez, who was top 10 ranked at one stage. Takam's always fallen short at Chisora-level or above but no one pretends that he's an elite fighter (save perhaps @Mitch87).
Yoka just hasn't stepped up. Will now be getting fights against other prospects with 0 intact who don't view him as a threat.
This. Takam is a bit better than Bang Gang Olukun but not quite in the Bert Cooper/Derrick Chisora club. Gatekeeper to the stars. A likable upset artist. Uber-journeyman. Whatever you want to say.
Stiverne had a heavier jab and borderline elite counterpunching for a big man. Takam wouldn’t ko an in-form Arreola with a big counter, ever.
Takam's best win is a 42 year old Thompson and that's crap for a 42 year old whose name gets thrown around like he's some sort of live dog. Yoka is absolutely crap
Takam would beat Michael Hunter and an Ortiz fight would be 50/50. A tough ol boy that always comes forward with the intent to win. But watch, the same people that hold Wilder in high regard will dismiss Takam as nothing more than a bum (due to having fought AJ).
The ref had to rescue a gassing Joshua when Takam (who took that fight two weeks notice) wouldn't be agood boy & fall down...
