they have a foe in common, Jorge Solis. Both won by KO but Gamboa in better fashion.
they both fought Farenas who was looking good against Uchiyama before the early draw.
I agree Gamboa must come in better shape, i think his come back after long lay off and heavy pressure was decent enough but no spectacular.
i think farenas is an step above Vasquez
no doubt will be a great fight to watch.

At the same time, Solis was coming down in weight from his usual 130 for Gamboa so he was weakened by the drop as they said in the HBO telecast. For the Uchiyama fight, he was back in his usual weight class.

Uchiyama dominated Farenas until cuts forced it to a technical draw.

One went back and forth with Farenas.

The other was on his way to pitching a shutout.

I'm not hating on Gamboa, and actually am still undecided between him and Uchiyama head to head - but in terms of common opposition neither has separated themselves. Gamboa outdid Uchiyama against Solis; Uchiyama outdid Gamboa against Farenas (despite the unsatisfying cutting short).

    Styles make fights.

Solis is going to get lit up by a speedster. Uchiyama took a bit longer because that isn't his game.

Farenas can walk through sterner stuff than Solis, and can get and keep a foe's respect longer with his power. Gamboa wasn't able to slow him, whereas Uchiyama simply outboxed him with the jab.

This is a fight I'd love to see.

If Gamboa is at his absolute best, I suspect he takes it. However, Uchiyama would be a live dog the whole way through. Even if Gamboa is at his absolute best, I think it's a tough fight.

excellent fight, if Gamboa from the Solis fight shows up he overwhelms and stops Uchi but if Gamboa from the Farenas fight shows up Uchi by stoppage. I'm hoping Gamboa just needed to shake off some rust and that he hasn't actually slowed down like it appeared.

    Uchiyama via mid round stoppage

I don't think Gamboa's chin would stand up to Uchiyama's great power.

Bump-the WBA has just made Gamboa the #1 contender for Uchiyama's belt!

Do you think KOs come in milk bottles? Go back to school. This fight would go 12 rounds.

Gamboa, easily. Most likely by ko/tko.

Will show that "over there" is just not on the same level.

He might be good enough to beat or at least compete well with Broner throughout.

Gamboa looked like **** his last fight. Hopefully it was just the ring rust. Because if he comes in again like that against a guy like Uchiyama, he gets knocked out.
