...and this happens. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLFUOy134wo[/ame] That Falcon PAUNCH is what put Sergio Martinez up on my radar. Sure, being a fan for a mere three years is close to jumping-on-the-bandwagon territory (by my standards), but so be it. I was actually relieved when Pavlik's left eye got cut in the 1st round. Martinez would work the cut four rounds, ease back (as always for the next few), explode and Kelly would be stopped on the stool coming into the 9th. I figured that was the least painful way for the fight to go... I hadn't counted on Loew being so cavalier with Pavlik's long-term health. Granted, Martinez is pretty firmly entrenched into his bad habits and he's slowly growing older with covering up the way he telegraphs his intent & punches but the fighter who can take full advantage of them for 7+ rounds would be a nightmarish prospect for any man. Anyway, this has been my favorite Sergio Martinez round for years: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56vztqMB_Bg[/ame]
I didn't watch the first vid, and honestly have no idea what point you're trying to make. It sounds insanely nonsensical. But, yeah, great round from Martinez in the second vid, but the other guy clammed up and then gave up after the first 30 seconds of punching fresh air.
There has been some talk about how Pavlik trained against the straight left to the head and that, if he had adjusted better to the right hook, the night would have been very different. Saul Roman there did adjust to those two punches and got Soul Punched to the belly over and over for his efforts. Kelly Pavlik kept pulling his elbows up further and further. If his eyes hadn't been so easy to hit, Martinez has that nasty uppercut to the belly and straight left to the solar plexus in his arsenal. The 2nd video is him being an overly-kind celebrity sparring partner for the day. It shows the uppercut to the belly more clearly than has been shown on any of his television appearances (especially on HBO, which doesn't show feet very well, either). He gets cautioned for low blows often, since it hits above the belt, but the elbow is below it and makes that hard to see. So, in the OP the points were: 1) When his bread & butter punches are being blocked, he counters that with feints & straight left to the body. 2) How I thought the fight with Pavlik would go and why Loew is a douche for cutting years off Pavlik's career by trying to hold off the inevitable. 3) The flaws that Martinez has and that the "lack of stamina" argument isn't true. 4) A clear view of what his uppercut looks like. Edit: Oh, and also to show off how he talks like a crazy man, especially with how he dedicates fights to whatever he's read on the front page of ESB that morning.
