1. Age will eventually beat Floyd if he doesn't pack it in (age is undefeated) 2. Maidana is lucky he didn't have a couple of points taken (no outrage on his fouls and constant dirty tactics though, unsurprisingly) 3. A competitive fight doesn't mean close or robbery (116-112) on the cards. 4. IB should create a thread teaching certain members of ESB how to score properly. 5. This in no way means Pac vs Floyd would be any more competitive (Pac is a boxer not a brawler). Stop comparing apples to oranges. 6. Some judges score strictly on activity. Clean punches win fights. 7. All elite boxers are tested and usually look less than phenomenal against unorthodox brawlers. (being unorthodox makes them harder to time and anticipate. Don't be biased just because you don't like a boxer. Maidana put it all on the line but came up short. Both men should be applauded for their effort, great fight.
1. agreed 2.Floyd also held, used his elbows and hit on the break 3. so true, people confuse close fights with actual robberies 4. so true 5. agreed, styles make fights 6. everyone scores fights how they see it, it doesn't mean they're always right though 7. see 5)
My takeaway: If anyone actually thinks Floyd is TBE, they are crazy. TBE doesn't squeak out a decision against a B level brawler.
Of course Floyd isn't the best ever, he's not even in my top 20 ever. He is the best in this era, I don't see anything to refute that.
I'm not saying Floyd doesn't have his tactics, (all fighters do). but he doesn't do things to damage fighters, he uses that elbow (f'r instance) as a push off to make room. Maidana was rabbit punching, hitting on the break, low, couple butts, much of Floyds was retaliatory. The point I was making is that most of the people screaming robbery are all too readily able to put aside dirty tactics if it benefits their argument.
You must have me confused with someone else. I'm a fan of all "boxer punchers", that's just personally the style I like, with that being said if a brawler does better work and deserves the round, they get that round in my eyes. Maidana didn't in the majority of the rounds.
Floyd was landing low blows through the fight as well. Both were bending the rules through the fight, can't complain about Maidana's bending if the rules and ignore Floyd's which actually helped him set up damaging shots...almost on the sane level as being damaging themselves.
