I have decided to take up boxing and want to compete at amateur level. I am 21 years old guy with no past boxing experience.

I am 5'4.5 and weigh about 65 kgs. I am confused about in which weight class to compete. My wrists are like 6 inch , so according to my body structure which weight class is best for me. I have been going to gym for like a year and dont carry much fat. My bf % is 12.

It would be also great if someone guides on my routine. I live in India and boxing gyms and coaches here aren't great compared to western countries. I could hardly find any boxing gym in my city.

Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

Start out on a simple foundation. Hit the streets and run 3 times per week to set a base for fitness training. This will develop into more advanced drills in the future. You can also add in resistance training, but try to keep away from body building and work either on strength training (below 5 reps) or endurance training (above 12 reps). (Both are important and achieve different results. Make sure your training allows you to show up fairly fresh for boxing training and you should be fine. Take it one step at a time.

Nobody can tell you this, it's a personal choice. Your coach will give you his opinion, once you find one that is.

I wouldn't even worry about cutting weight until you've had your first fight. It's not like you're fat or anything, and you'll probably drop a few pounds naturally once you start training/running regularly.

If the weight limit is 125 and you weigh 127 normally, sure, cut the weight, no big deal. But I wouldn't stress yourself about weight because skills are going to be more than enough to win your first fight almost definitely.

Best advice is to find a trainer somewhere. That's the only way you'll ever learn to fight .

My gym is like a small room and it has just 1 small heavy bag and few gloves. I dont think the trainer over there has that indept knowledge of boxing.

Lets see I am going to start from tomorrow.

I have everlast boxing workout dvd , it may come in handy.

My 1st day training was pretty intense !

It lasted for 2 hours and even my underwear was soaked in sweat.
The assistant coach made us do 10 X 10 of burpees , 30 mins jogging and different types of jumps ,30 mins of skipping and throwing continous punches , 30 mins of yoga stretches with no rest in b/w and 30 mins of abs exercises.

Sounds like a good fitness workout, but did you learn anything about how to box?

    Just back from the gym.

My coach made me throw punches when my guard used to drop he used to slap me harder every time. So I learned quite a few things.

Does anyone else's coach hit ?

Get started, your body will change, and you can decide in 6-12 months when you are ready to compete :)
