Ive just seen a 21 yr old lad train in a gym,hes been in only 4 days, what a ****ing talent, hes called Lewis Truscott, his older bro is the pro boxer Paul, apparently the story goes,Lewis has had 3 fights all wins, but hes a bit of a wrong un,been in trouble with the Police etc, drinking, smoking weed etc,ive just seen him train, his bro Paul has said..thats enough, its back in the gym for you,**** me,he looks a World beater, better than Paul, and Paul was a really good Amateur,im just wondering how many really talented kids threw it all away? apparently Lewis Truscott is gonna give it another go,for how long nobody knows,i sincerely hope he keeps it up,hes one of the best ive ever seen,so naturally talented,5ft 11 and super bantam weight, does any one else know of lads who could have made it and threw it away,i could tell younf Lewis this and spur him on.

Mark Heffron is a recent fighter that springs to mind. Sparked Amir Khan in sparring, Gallagher says he is the best fighter he worked with. But he is just a bad kid.

You hear it all the time. Boxing is 90% mental....whether that is the case or not I don't know but mentality plays a huge factor in this sport.

Boxing is a sport that attracts kids from lower income family's. You are more likely to to be raised by a single parent, No Dad around, less discipline etc etc. Not saying kids raised by single mums cannot be successful but it is a disadvantage. Probably every amateur gym trainer could name you 10 fighters of the top of there head that could have been British champions but couldn't keep themselves out of trouble.

Didn't Mike Tyson become the youngest ever unified Heavyweight champion and make $250million?

I think the OP's point is fighters that never reached there potential because of outside the ring antics.

Perhaps Tyson could have reigned for longer but he still reached his peak.

Exellent point you made,is Mark Ronnies bro? I have seen a few kids go by the wayside, not brilliant boxers, but talented kids who could have made something of themselves,Lewis family live on a council estate, really nice people they are,Paul does his bits for charity and tries to educate kids about drugs, his older bro Steve was a class amateur,he won the schoolboys, boys clubs and junior ABAs in 1 season,he cudda went to Sydney 2000 Olympics, but he gave it all up,altho,he has a good job offshore now,but Lewis was totally going the wrong way,and his bro Paul has basically told him, sort ur life out,or ill sort you out  but I swear,he has the novices at his mercy,he really looks that good,i hope he gives it his best shot.

The whole of sport is 90% mental. The other 10% is PED's and steroids.

Kirkland Laing is one of the high profile one's that stands out.

As for kids at ABC's i dare say there's hundreds if not thousands up and down the land who've looked impressive at 13, 14, 15 and then had their heads turned by booze, birds and their mates.
