I enjoyed Joe Calzaghe's career and destiny to retire undefeated. which seemed to be his goal
and of course you will always get people knocking your level of opposition at some point. We have yet to see Ward scrutinized for this. As of now he is in the midst of a tournament..and has Bute to deal with in the future who is on his own path of being great..who also is getting that calzaghe great consideration. when those paths meet... Ward will certainly deserve the consideration upon beating him as well.

Ok ill leave Ward out, as he is still unknown, but -
Joe beat an undefeated WBC/WBA champ Kessler, surely your not considering Kessler has got better since Joe beat him.
Kessler of now beat Froch who beat Dirrell who beat Abraham, but knowing how Dirrell got illegally KOd by a guy that was taken the distance by former WWs who were blown away in their careers id be unsure about Dirrells chin holding up against many of those fighters. Dirrell was outhustled by a limited Froch who is not any better than a prime Reid. Reid was a good fighter a bronze medallist like Dirrell who had an iron chin and I dont doubt he could have beaten Froch or Dirrell. AA isnt a full size SMW so I wouldnt pick him to win all of them etc.
Lacy was extremely hyped and favoured to beat Joe. The pre Joe Lacy could take a good shot and had a better resume than Bute who was lucky not to have a KO loss on his resume to the limited Andrade.

Still all speculation as this is guess work and not facts like I produce, and the facts favour Calzaghe

If you didnt read the first page is pointless you quoting as you are missing facts you probably dont or didnt know.
Facts show he wont come close to beating his SMW resume with the S6 and Bute

I'm reading what you've posted in this thread and you haven't even made a compelling argument here, so why would I read the first page? Through this whole thread all you keep pointing out is guys being undefeated or someone's accomplishments. Being undefeated doesn't mean anything and accomplishments can be misleading.

Agreed. I think he may have to do a few more things to pass Calzaghe in a lot of peoples minds, but at 27 or 28 he'd be well on his way and would have faced far stiffer competition by that age than Calzaghe in any stretch of his career.
Of course there have been a lot champs who burned bright for a short period, and longevity and consistency should be considered. But in terms of quality of opposition I'd say Ward.

to match calzaghe's record, he would have to beat Roy Jones now then fight & beat someone like Andre Dirrell 10 years from now...all while taking soft touches in between

    Lack of knowledge
How can accomplishments be so misleading? I know some can be better than others, but your basing Dirrell as a great win based on potential talent for one win a DQ and a loss to a lesser fighter to many of the Calzaghe victims, there is no compelling arguement because these are facts

oddly...in calzaghes defence... everyone was saying what a dead division it was during his reign. between no type of tournament like we have now...and frank warren controlling him.

It's his fault as much as it isn't that ward would grow to surpass him.

in reading his boxing rec. ....all in the United kingdom...and the names of his opponents during that 10 year reign...I couldn't tell you who they are...or what they are doing now.

perhaps they are great in the U.K.?
