He is in good spirits and healthy. Didn't look all that bad. He said to me "I learned much more from defeat then I ever learned from winning"... He also said he was sorry and he owes it to his fans, his country and to all the true boxing fans to come back even stronger. Rather not get into anything else... But he earned my respect even more after this fight. :good
Who knows maybe this fight can be to him as Morales was to Pacquiao, but he needs a good trainer. Make up with Evangelista please.
I'm not normally one who thinks a fighter needs to get rid of a trainer following a loss, however Cotto isn't going anywhere with that corner.
I think it's a bit too late for that. The chance for a Morales/Pac epiphany should have happened after his plastering by Margo. He's gone through too many wars for that kind of come back.
yup, he needs a better trainer. i hope he patches things up with his uncle. his corner did not help at all. there we no adjustments made throughout the fight at all. add to that, the fight should have been stopped by the corner in round 9. but they let cotto continue instead of protecting him from himself. i wish cotto all the best. i hope he gets a shot at a non-plastered margarito.
He is a very good fighter but he has to stop taking this kind of punishment even in defeat. Margarito and Pacman really looked hard on him. Not to say there is an easy way to lose, but he certainly does not take it. With both those guys he stayed in there and tried until he couldn't anymore.
Good to hear he's recovering. I hope he realises that he had the tools to give Pac a real test, and he blew it by trying to blast Pac out when he was on the ropes. He knew his shots were bothering the Filipinio, that meant he needed to take his time and keep doing what had been working for him. But, I still think he's a fantastic fighter and hope that, if he gets a professional trainer, and takes a good six months to heal, he can have a few more solid fights and put a nice cap on his career.
Cotto should take a year off before getting back into it. He did'nt look at all shot to me. He was pulling the trigger just fine, and his punches looked pretty crisp to me. .....but you just dont stalk Manny Pacquiao in a seek and destroy mindframe, who's a fast nonstop punching machine that pivots and throws his shots from some wierd angles. Cotto should let the body heal and comeback rejuvinated 12 months from now.
I disagree, I saw a fighter that had trouble pulling the trigger. At several points Pac was standing with the earmuffs on, even against the ropes at points, and Cotto simply did nothing, even letting Pac stand, pose, and simply move away. When Gianluco Branco put the earmuffs on, Cotto simply destroyed his arms and severely injured them. I hesitate in writing this, because I think Pac's victory was a great one and I dont want to sound like Im detracting from that. But, I thought he visibly slowed after the Margarito bout.
Thanks for the info. By the way, Im curious, what are your thoughts on the fight, his corner, and what he could do differently when he comes back. Personally, I think he may have to make some drastic changes, beginning with his trainer and conditioning coach. He may be pushed hard enough in order to deal with high intensity, when and if it comes in later fights. One thing is for sure; now that he has this second loss, his future opponents will try to walk him down and impose themselves, as they will see him as being vulnerable both mentally and physically ~ he will have to prepare for this.
With his mentality, I believe he can still come back the same fighter he once was. He would still KO Floyd
