Hatton came to Blackpool Winter Gardens last night for a sportsmans dinner and my company provided the security for the show and after show drinking master class, both were a massive success. I've known Hatton for many years and as always he was extremely personable and tbh as a boxing fan I really enjoyed his talk as he recounted his favourite moments of his career. He was also very funny adding some gr8, light hearted digs at Junior Witter and FW which was probably missed on 90% of attendees but I had to chuckle. There was a small element of the crowd who resorted to cringe worthy nut huggery but that aside it was a very enjoyable evening and I highly recommend for all boxing fans should a sportsmans event involving Hatton come to your town. As always when I talk to Hatton I try not to let my admiration of him get the better of me and I talk to him on the level and he, as noted in another thread (apoligys' thread starter) most certainly not fight beyond next year. Hatton-Maliggiani or whatever his name is, is scheduled for madison square garden or vegas november 22nd there will be an announcement and press conference this week. I asked Hatton who his final fight will be against and he was 90% certain it will be against Pacman. I suggested that De La Hoya despite his age would possibly be more legacy enhancing (though its arguble- both would be fine victories) and Hatton reasoned that he thought De La Hoya was probably too big and the recent, rumoured offer was a fight made at 10st 10lbs, a weight where Hatton was likely to be completely ineffective. He said that if the fight were to be made at 10st 7lbs he would strongly consider it. So there you go straight from the horses mouth.... I alledge.... But truthfully once again a great night, with a great British fighter. I wish you haters had of been there-
Thanks for that. If he ends his career with wins against Malignaggi and Pacman it will have have been a great career no doubt. After his last performance though I'm not convinced he has it anymore or maybe that performance was to be expected with it being the one after his first professional defeat?
i agree jeff.hatton came to sunderland to do a talk last year and he was first class.he stood up for the best part of an hour ad libbed and kept people entertained the whole time,he was very funny and a good chunk of his talk was spent taking the **** out of himself.in between nothing was too much bother for him, there was a steady procession of people taking pictures of him on their phones, and it just wasn't a bother to him, sugar ray leonard was up here the year before and that sort of thing was a no no.
Good one! Sounds like a cracking night. I wish you hadn't mentioned the DLH fight though, DLH is way to big imo and would crush him (that's not a dig a hatton, they just differ in size so).
Malifaggi doesn't excite me one bit, but the more I see Pacquiao making a comfortable transition through the weights, the more I think he can beat Hatton when previously I thought he had no chance I'm gonna go with the class, rather than just size. Pacquiao will overcome it and whoop his ass :happy
I met him at a charity dinner a few days after the Lazcano fight Nothing too much trouble, constant stream of people asking for signatures on things, photo's etc, he didn't hesitate The guy is a millionaire, he doesn't need to be at a dinner in London raising money for charity, but he was The haters are just pathetic people, really.
I agree with you (for once when it comes to Hatton!) Malignaggi isnt the best opponent, but its still a worthy opponent being the only real contender in the LWW division (presuming Bradley doesnt start walking through people - but if that happens I assume it will be too late for a Hatton fight). I thought Hatton would be too big for Pac and saw this as being pretty straight forward and not really a legacy fight for Hatton. Seeing how comforatable Pac was at LW though really made me excited. If Pac can get through Valero and possibly another LW (Campbell? Think Casa would be all wrong for him) then all of a sudden a showdown with Hatton becomes a competitive fight. I'm still edging Hatton for it (presuming all goes well in each of the fights beforehand), but it now seems a genuine fight rather than Hatton v a blown up name. Bring it on!
Jeff, Hatton is and has always been a really nice guy. Boxing wise his aggressive pressure style is crowd pleasing. Personally I have never felt he was as good as some made him out to be which PBF proved. I think ODLH will be to big for Hatton whereas a fight with Pacman looks very interesting. If it is 2 more and out then good luck to the kid. Probably the best fighter to have come out of Manchester.
The dinner I referred to above was Ricky, Bruno, McGuigan and Cooper. It was brilliant and Bruno was the best of the lot, he is a seriously nice, self-effacing guy. Sure you'll have an absolute great time. I live in Essex btw, whereabouts is it?
the boy is an arse, and overrated as **** in the UK. as usual he's gonna be happy to fight the little guy....but there's such a big gulf in class that I reckon Pac beats him. I'll be at a flipper party in Manila for sure if that fight happens.
True but you got to admire the chap for giving something back to the less fortunate via all the charity work he does. Unlike others he does not seek publicity for it either and that is what sets him apart from the muck. Compare his charity work to that of Mr Khan when he visited a relief camp in Kashmir after the 2005 earthquake. Some nob in his entourage made him take off a charity t-shirt and don a reebok t-shirt. How fcking sad is that when you are milking an unfortunate event such as an earthquake for your sponsors (I doubt reebok would have minded if Amir had worn the charity t-shirt and Amir did not have problems wearing it).
Yep, what a ****. Charity do's, signing autographs....I don't blame you for hating the arrogant ****er.atsch Were Mayweather, Maussa, Collazo, Urango little guys? You are a complete joke on the whole Hatton issue. You must be trolling most of the time, no one can possibly be as smallminded and bitter as you try to come across.
