Talks underway for Cotto-Martinez

It's very risky, but worth the shot, it will be a fun fight that will have Cotto fans on the edge of our seats.

 

Cotto is a true warrior. Though I cant see why they're having a MW fight at 155, why not just make Martinez drop a pound and have the fight at 154 for Cotto's belt.

 

Cotto's one of my favourite fighters, and sure I would like to see him fight Martinez. Why not? It would be a great fight and neither man shy's away from a challenge. However fighting for the MW title at 155? That's ridiculous.

And for the sake of one pound, why not have Martinez drop to 154 and challenged for the LMW title again, makes way more sense.

Cotto is a legit 3 weight world champ, if somehow he won the fight at 155, I would still regard him as a 3 weight world champ, same as how I find it dubious calling Pacquiao a LMW champ.

Honestly, I just don't pay any attention to the belts anymore. I just want to see good fights and leave the belts to the people who think they're actually important for elite fighters (I mean yeah, a belt is a good thing to have if you're still making a name for yourself, but once you've made it to the upper echelon, who cares? it's all about making big money fights against other fighters in the upper echelon) and it comes at the cost of having another BS title, it's a small price to pay.

 

Basically it's for legacy, no matter how much boxing fans know how questionable the 4th title is, people will call him the first Puertorican to win titles in 4 weight divisions. Even if it's ridiculous, Martinez would be the first lineal Champ Cotto defeats in all his championships efforts. (That's of course assuming Cotto does win, in which even I think it's a bit of long shot).

 

Great for both. I am rooting for Cotto but know that Martinez is the favorite to win, rightfully so.

As for the catchweight title fight... who cares?
People ***** about the ABC Belts are worth **** yet they elevate it by making a big deal of it. You can't have it both ways.

And MW is 154.1 - 160. The definition is NOT 160 and only 160.

I disabled Avatar's for that very reason I hated having to look over my shoulder at work whenever a post with someone with a NSFW avatar.

 

It's one of my all time favourite fights! Cotto always fights the best, some he wins, some he loses, but it's his willingness to mix it up that makes me a fan.
