talkSPORT and boxing. They seemed to have found a love for the sport, which I guess can only be a good thing in a way. Sure it's not always going to be hight class coverage, but the more coverage the sport gets nowadays is perhaps a good thing.
Jason Cundy was very enthusiastic the other night interviewing Dan Rafael. At least I think it was Cundy.
Danny Kellys show tonight was decent.. Good presenter is Kelly, always enthusiastic about the subject of his shows.
It's alright unless you're listening to Ronnie Irani. He knows absolutely **** all about any sport, even cricket, which he played professionally for 15 years.
They give it a fair amount of coverage and always have interviews with people in the industry like boxers, trainers, boxing writers, promoters, etc. They do a lot more for the sport than other media outlets which are a joke really. Kell Brook's last fight hardly got any coverage. Like I said joke.
Ron McIntosh and Richie Woodhall must have a freelance contracts with the BBC as they is doing the Olympics as well last I looked. Unusual for the BBC to share talent with rivals in such a way.
same way John inverdale did French open tennis for ITV. If you're freelance the BBC has no exclusivity over you. Kelly's show was excellent last night I thought with Mcintosh and Lillis contrasting styles but good
True. Irani is an absolute embarrassment to the station. Some of the banter he tries to engage the Moose with is pure Alan Partridge. It was funny the other day listening to him & Alan Brazil pretending they were clued up on the boxing scene. Making comments about Garcia like "he doesn't move his head enough for me". Obviously stuff they've heard people like McGuigan saying.
They only really cover high profile fights that feature a british fighter. ala Haye. And even then its a footnote compared to football. None of them really have a clue.
Obviously it's good that Talksport are taking an interest in boxing, but its been quite funny to hear them change their tune since it announced they were going to be broadcasting the Haye fight. Originally, every show on the station was going down the typically lazy 'IT'S A TRAVESTY TO BOXING ROUTE.' Since they've got the rights to the fight, all it is every other minute on the station is presenters bigging the fight up.
