Every now and then lists come up, even in these days there is someone who wanted to try their hand at the enterprise. The TalkSPORT site has compiled a ranking of the greatest hitters in Boxing history. Here it is. 1. George Foreman 2. Sam Langford 3. Joe Louis 4. Jimmy Wilde 5. Earnie Shavers 6. Sandy Sadler 7. Mike Tyson 8. Tommy Hearns 9. Deontay Wilder 10. Julian Jackson Any comment?
If someone doesn't put Wlad on their list of hardest hitters it doesn't make much sense and putting guys likes Langford, Wilde and Sadler is asinine because we haven't got much footage on them plus their gloves didn't have much padding , I can bet for a fact that half of their knockouts would come from cuts, exhaustion or broken teeth. The list is all over the place apart from few trusty names that star in every list.
They're probably just throwing names out that people mention on boxing sites. "It will look like we know what we're talking about if we include some guys from the black and white era"
Sam Langford doesn't belong anywhere near that list. He has a ton of KOs, but he had more than twice as many fights as KOs. He stopped fewer than half the guys he fought. No matter how you slice it, a 49 percent KO rate doesn't qualify him as one of the best punchers ever. By that measure, if Langford had 40 fights, he'd have averaged about 19 KOs. Hearns and Jackson were certainly among the best punchers ever. Hearns was knocking out guys from welter to cruiser. Foreman, Wilder, Shavers, Louis, Tyson are okay. I would rank Wilder the best out of that grouping, though. Wilder hasn't outweighed an opponent in nine years. He's only failed to stop Tyson Fury, who was 40 pounds heavier in both their meetings, yet he still managed to drop Fury twice. And he might still KO Fury in their fight next month. The other heavyweights all went the distance with guys who were far worse. And George - unlike Louis, Shavers and Tyson - had a weight advantage over most of his opponents. He was usually beating up lighter guys. If most of Wilder's opponents were 20 or 30 pounds lighter than him he'd have killed someone by now.
It's actually a good list. Ignore anybody, ever, who says Langford shouldn't be included. They're either clueless or deluded. He should absolutely be rated no less than top three.
Hipsters are the reason Langford is on this list. Sam Langford isn't the second hardest puncher EVER in the entire history of boxing. That is ridiculous. How many times did they see Sam Langford fight? Three times? And how many KOs did he score in those two or three fights they DID watch? More than half the guys he fought went the distance with him. Like 130 times. Nobody who went the distance 130 freaking times was the hardest puncher ever.
Agreed about Wlad. Jab, Left Hook, Right Cross? He's one of the hardest hitters in history in those departments.
TalKSport made that list because very likely have footage on Sadler, Langford and Wilde we dont have.
Crap list Julian Jackson? 10? Where is Gerald Mcclellan. He was a bigger banger in same division and at the same time? This content is protected
Wilder knockin out binmen doesn't make him one of the hardest hitters ever...does he hit hard ... yes...should he break the all time top ten ...**** no
The list has no context, it's neither a P4P list or an absolute hardest puncher list. The 1st list would have no heavyweights and the 2nd list would be all heavyweights. Personally, if I had to stick my neck out, Hearns would be P4P No 1 just simply because he carried his power whenever he moved up. Wlad would top my absolute hardest puncher list just because of all the testimonies of fighters who have sparred or fought him for real. All talk about his unreal power and he could deliver with both hands.
