How can you beat a tall boxer who fights tall and and sticks to the gameplan?

Look at past fighters who were tall for their weight class and used it. Monzon, Arguello, Robinson, Wlad.

Some of the most dominant clean outs in history have been by abnormally tall guys.

    Coincidence I think not.

    Chavez was almost 5'8".

He wasn't short for his weight class.

I don't think Robinson was abnormally tall for his weight class but he was tall for welterweight no doubt.

I don't think height is a big deal but it gives an advantage and also reach advantage can favour the shorter guy at times.

Tyson used to chew up tall heavies for fun. It's just talent. The talent just outweighs the others.

Height does help to an extent, though. Especially range finding jabs like Wlad can do.

You can be a tall guy and not have the talent of the short guy and lose out.

A good big guy should beat a good small guy surely?

Marciano, Chavez, Duran, Dempsey, Tyson, Armstrong. There are plenty of guys throughout history that have done this. Do your homework.

I will say though, if you don't have power as a guy like this, I feel sorry for you.

Yes. If a tall fighter boxes tall and knows how to clinch he can become a nightmare.

Just think if Hearns had a chin. He would be probably top 2 ATG.

to beat a tall or long guy you need to get inside the end of his punches. either to the end of your punches or up close chest to chest. he needs more room to generate the same leverage you can in a smaller space. so your punches will be harder than his up close. the angles also change the closer you get to each other. you gain angles from which you can get a scoring punch in, and he loses angles. there is a counterbalance for every move and every style and every physical advantage. provided they are of equal mass, just differently distributed.
that is the beauty of boxing, if you can fit the right mentality and training into the right fighter, no matter what his shape is, you can make him a champion.

Height isn’t really an advantage. Reach is though

Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Canto, Jung Koo Chang, Roman Gonzalez, Dempsey, Pryor, Canelo, Mickey Walker, GGG, and Frazier are all also really good shorter fighters for their weights who negated the lengthiness of their opponents.

    Agreed.

And not only did they negate the dimensional disparities but they also knew how to turn same to their advantage in varying degrees against certain opposition.

Funny how, despite their greater size and dimensions, which were enough to be getting on with, both Ali and Foreman still saw need to employ less than legal tactics against the notably smaller Frazier - employing excessive clinching and excessive pushing/man handling respectively.

Canelo is deceptively good at negating height/reach advantages. Somehow, he's just always in range for his punches.

LOL Uneducated fans like this think that guys like Pacquiao and Chavez were short but almost no one their height was any taller.
