It is often discussed about guys like Sonny Liston who weren't tall, but had long arms. Well, which tall fighters had short arms instead of long arms?
I'm always surprised by George Foremans, at 6'4" he has only a 78" reach - he's a guy that looks so massive to me, where someone like Jack Dempsey at a shade over 6' has only a half an inch shorter reach - not sure whether that's a case of Foremans being short or Demps being long? Just strikes me the Georges is a tad short - most guys 6'3" you're looking at 80'plus but he's 6'4" and only 78"?
good shout - he had an incredibly short reach for a man getting on for 6'2" - if his reach is actually correct that is
Vitali has very long arms according to HBO..near 30 inches I think. However, his shoulders do appear to be rather sunk. Wlad is definetly more broader. At any rate, Ron Lye at 6'3" is only 76 inches I think.
Marciano's reach was only 67inches and while not tall, thats a short reach, Tyson's was only 71inches also shortish for a 5'11 man. Or was Tyson really 5'9 as some claim
Enzo Maccarinelli's reach is shorter than his height (6'4, 75"), although reach itself can be misleading. Vitali does have fairly long arms, if not a long reach. Liston had long arms, but his reach was made even longer by his huge hands and wide shoulders.
Interesting photographic comparison between Johnson and Choynski here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/80/JohnsonChoy.jpg/250px-JohnsonChoy.jpg
