Conventional wisdom tells you to get up close against a tall fighter, because he's weak on the inside. But, who were some tall fighters with good inside games?
Foreman was good at catching the smaller fighter at midbrange but his inside gameni can't say was competent enough as it could have been
I question that conventional wisdom. What matters is the fighter has an uppercut and body attack game and is comfortable being on the inside. Bowe was a big man and good infighter. Good infighters are pretty rare these days. I actually think being much taller than your opponent gives a natural advantage against uppercuts as the much shorter guy has to reach way up there. Are there examples of say Tyson or Louis uppercutting much taller opponents? Holmes has a decent uppercut, did he use it vs ****ey?
Tyson always used the uppercut on guys a lot taller than him. He would often set it up with the right hook to the body. Holmes landed some uppercuts here and there against ****ey.
sandy saddler was 0ne of the best. you did not want to go inside on him. during ezzard charles' short reign as a middleweigt, he became a very good fighter on the inside...because he was 6' and rangy. he started learning as early as his amateur days.
