Every time a fighter wins a big fight he gets some hype. Every time. After canelo stopped saunders some people took that and somehow ran to "canelo beats ray Leonard." It's just recency bias. Next time he has a flat performance he'll be garbage on here. I guess that what this board is for, though.
So what that people were hyping Wilder? Wlad has more embarrassing losses that Wilder and to lesser opponents at that. Reigned in a very weak era and he's still an ATG heavyweight. All elite fighters get hyped for a reason. They are seen as exceptional talents. Most people gave Ryan more than a punchers chance to beat Tank but Tank made it look easy by using a combination of ring IQ, lighting sharp reflexes and power. He keeps living up to the hype.
Not to harp on this but it really is remarkable. I'm trying to think of a other time when a fighters estimation as a puncher was so elevated by failing to knock out an opponent for 3 full fights. I'm not saying people are wrong I gained tons of respect for wilder in the third fight and didn't hate him before at all. But usually a fighter gets puncher hype by actually knocking someone out.
He's definitely good for boxing, I made the 6 hour drive From Montreal to watch his fight live against Romero, the atmosphere at the sold out Barclay Center was as good or better then all the fights that I saw live, how great he is is yet to be seen, but so far so good!!!
