The IBO world championship of light heavyweight beltholder Antonio Tarver will be on the line against IBO #43 rated Danny Santiago on Saturday at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut. The bout headlines a world title tripleheader that also features defenses by WBC super welterweight champion Vernon Forrest and IBF flyweight champion Nonito Donaire. "The IBO title is very significant, " said Tarver today at a press conference in New York City."A lot of great champions who have come before me have won it with pride. I am proud to be light heavyweight champion." The event's promoter Gary Shaw says the media should give the IBO more credit. "When the boxing media twists things to fit the bill it upsets me," commented Shaw. "If they like a belt, or a fighter, they mention it. If they don't, then they ignore it. I am talking about Antonio Tarver and the IBO title. Lennox Lewis, wore the IBO belt, and if it's good enough for Lennox Lewis and Roy Jones, Jr., then it's good enough for Antonio Tarver. I am proud to know Ed Levine (IBO President). He is a great man and one of the true gentlemen in the sport. I am proud to pay the sanctioning fee and put the belt on the winner on Saturday night. I know they will wear it proudly. " atsch
Tarver is the man I like Tarver, He will have no problem beating Danny Santiago on Saturday.... but he should really stay away from Chad Dawson that's for sure.
I just saw his post fight interview after fighting Miriqi and his lips were all white. It was so funny. And he was going off about how the ref who scored it a draw should be banned from boxing. I kind of agree because there is no way anyone with eyes can score it a draw. And he was going on off about how he wouldn't do the interview until Miriqi left the ring. MILKDUD!!!!!!!!!!!!1
IBO, not IBF. By the way, the IBO accepts a "championship fight" between its champion and the #43 contender. :rofl As long as both guys pay sanctioning fees everything's ok.
He owned a past his prime RJJ, and Jones won the first fight. **** Tarver. This message was paid for by the RJJ Nuthuggers Association.
I do think that RJJ having to lose about 25 lbs of pure muscle at the age of 35 permanently messed with his reflexes but that is no excuse. He was coming off of a thrashing of John Ruiz his previous fight and everyone thought he was CLEARLY the best P4P fighter. Gotta give Tarver credit. It's just that styles make fights. Some guys match up great against another style. Like Vernon Forrest owned Shane Mosley. His style just fit perfectly to time Mosley time and time again. And on the flip side, the same way Mayorga owned Forrest. Mayorga's style allowed him to time Forrest time and time again.
Tarver is the most underrated fighter out there. People act like he's some kind of bum only because they can't stand him as a person. Whether you like him or not...he IS a damn good boxer and still one of the best fighter in the LHW division. "Bad" Chad "Awesome" Dawson would beat him though.:yep
Tarver is the true champ because he holds the IBO belt. Maybe he should go after the WBU, WBF and WBO belts next.
