... manager of Dawson, Mike Criscio, says of both Hopkins and Calzaghe. "We had a contract to fight Calzaghe in November, a year ago and it was all said and done and good to go and a week later, oh, he doesn't want to fight him. Hopkins, you mention Chad's name and he's got amnesia. He says, 'Well, I want to fight everybody in the division, I'm the best in the division. I want to unify this and that.' Well, I said, 'That's all fine and good but you gotta go through Chad Dawson to get there.' So now what he's doing is instead of fighting at 175-pounds, he's fighting at all these other weights that don't make a damn difference for anything." The reality is, no matter what Dawson does in the future, should he get past the rugged Johnson and then down every other world-class light heavyweight in the world, he may never get an opportunity at 'The Ring' champion. The same may apply to Johnson or Woods should they come out of this gauntlet unscathed. They could be a lot like every other welterweight who waits around for Floyd Mayweather or a guy like Nate Campbell (more on him later), who may not fit into the promotional plans of those who know own this belt. No one wants the young gun ... props to old Glenn for being a warrior ... at least Hop didn't duck Glenn ... can't say that about .....
I have a hard time believing Warren ever accepted a fight between Calzaghe and Dawson. That would contradict everything we know about the man.
Precisely! The only reason why Dawson agreed to fight Diaconu in the first place was because he couldn't get Tarver to fight him!
Whatever, bottom line is he agreed and signed the contract. Within 6 months of winning the title.:good
Yeah...he was forced to sign the contract by the WBC. Couldn't get Tarver - or he would have done what he did with Johnson. So he agreed. Then, when Diaconu got injured, he fought a tune-up fight and did his best to get the WBC to count the tune-up as the mandatory, and have Diaconu stripped of his status as mandatory. The WBC told him to **** off and to fight Diaconu within a certain period of time. But Dawson signed to fight Johnson instead, after the deadline imposed by the WBC. Fearing he'd be stripped, he camped for 2 days in front of the WBC President's house, to petition him to let him fight Johnson with his belt on the table, pleading poverty. He also tried again to argue to have Diaconu's mandatory status revoked. The WBC President felt sorry for this pathetic guy and allowed him to fight Johnson but forced him to sign a contract that after Johnson, he would fight Diaconu or he'd get stripped this time around...So...they allowed Diaconu to fight for the Interim title and said that the winner of that title would become WBC Champ if the winner of Dawson v. Johnson didn't fight the WBC Interim Champ within 120 days of the Interim Champ bout, no excuses of any sort allowed - not even a bona fide injury to Dawson...that says it all...
Go to Yahoo! Boxing right now there is an article on how Tarver is running fron top opponents and has done so in the past. The article is called Run AND Hide in big bold letters form a Ring Magizine writer of the year. So if you don't take my word for it...
Tarver is a POS and is/has been delusional joke for years-apparently the Mayrunner nuthuggers love him as well-figures!
No. The winner of Dawson v. Johnson got to fight the winner of Diaconu v. Henry within 120 days of the 19th of April; otherwise, the winner of Diaconu v. Henry becomes the new WBC Champ. It's the word on the street, feller.
Yahoo Boxing's experts seem to agree with me as usual (Sweet Science.com as well) but keep the faith and try not to get discouraged. Note my posts on were dated before the Yahoo Boxing and Sweet Science.com article were published! He ain't ducking Dawson more than Hopkins is ducking Dawson. Both are old men fighting old men. Leave them be. Let me tell you who doesn't have an excuse for ducking a young man - Dawson!
I wish I could agree, but SHowtime gave Tarver a gimme fight on the same card with Dawson to set up a showdown . . .everyone knew this. They both win, so we get the showdown right? Wrong, Tarver demands another gimme on Showtime and gets it. Now at least he's not getting a gimme but he's still ducking Dawson.
