Why is that Tarver's wins over RJJ are attributed to Roy having to lose 24lbs (from 199 to 175) to make LHW. Yet when people talk of Hopkins win over Tarver (220s to 175), it's considered an ATG level achievement and Tarver's weight drain is not an issue?

    They arent.

Roy won the fight he fought Tarver after he had to drain down from HW.

Plus, Tarver was a natural LHW, Hopkins a natural MW moving up, who also happened to be 40+ years old AAAAAND was a 3-1 underdog.

Huge difference...as always nice try...and thanks for playing! Dont worry, Im sure a few posters who have the same bias toward Bernard as you do will come on here and blindly back up your point (even tho you have none) without actually doing their homework on the subject!!! Its the beauty of ESB!!!

because tarver argued strongly that it shouldn't be considered an issue for RJJ, so it shouldn't be considered an issue for tarver. I think Tarver and hopkins both deserve props for those performances, they both basically beat the LHWs who were considered the best at the time.

Sorry...Im in defense mode right now...didnt mean the bias comment and stuff!

Again tho, the first half of my post stands....Roy won the fight, was the favorite and was essentially at his best at LHW...Hopkins is a natural MW, moving up 15 pounds, taking on the best fighter at LHW, at 40+ and was the underdog...by a good margin.

Plus, Tarver ballooned for a movie, Roy for a chance at the HW championship. Cant use that to take away from what Bernard did in that fight.

I see your point; though, I don't think Roy was at his best when he beat Tarver.

He was definately in decline...and I agree that the weight issue had to do with it. But other than the actual weight loss, there is little as far as similarities between the two fights.

He had to gain weight to play the HW champ in the last Rocky movie.

Because Tarver in his absolute prime wasn't all that impressive and didn't look much different against Hops than he ever did before. RJJ was SERIOUSLY and visibly declined against Tarver compared to his prime. Also, RJJ put on muscle weight... he was that much heavier and in fighting condition. Tarver just ballooned up, and he might just do that in between just about every fight as far as I know.
