As i just told a good man from Florida. Tarver is one tough guy. Even in the 2nd Dawson fight you could see he didn't have it anymore. Yet he still got in there and traded. Props. :thumbsup

He is tough, he has never been KO'd(to my knowledge) and been in there with some of the best the sport has produced.

he was tough, had some skills, and was the first to beat roy jones so he didn't deserves some credit. he was a ****ing loudmouth though who fell just short of being great, partially because of his late start to the fight game.

Tarver was an underachiever. He went into the 1996 Olympics as the World Amatuer Champion , and was a favorite to win Gold in Atlanta. But he lost to Jirov , who Antonio beat a year before. Tarver should have beaten Jirov again, he had much more talent than Jirov, but Antonio was rather erratic. To me, he never quite lived up to his potential, except for the near decapitation of Jones. But he never quite reached that level again.

Even though I couldn't stand his ass - I have to give him his props. He beat every man he faced - with the exception of Dawson. Not only the first to beat Roy - but the first and only one to beat him twice. Even though he lost the first fight - he put on a very good performance that resulted in a rematch - in which he smashed Superman with some Cryptonite that he "Left" in the ring.

He could talk the talk and backed it up for most of his career.

Can't say I'm sad to see he's gone - but I do wish him the best of luck in what ever he does.

    It was a lucky punch!:|

Seriously, I was never a fan of Tarver's and always thought he was nothing special. He seemed to live off of his victories over a faded Jones. He made a nice little career for himself but should not be considered great.

Nobody "traded" in the Dawson-Tarver fights. Both guys threw punches, then covered up and let the other guy throw. I can count on one hand the number of times in both fights that the fighters were actually throwing punches at the same time.

Tarver was a good fighter he should retire I think what happened with Tarver was he beat Jones who was the number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world for many years and after he beat him there was really nothing else that he could do there was only Jones, Tarver, and Johnson in that division when Tarver was on top but after knocking out Jones he became a bit of an underachiever because he accomplished everything he could in boxing all in one night becoming the light heavyweight champion of the world and knocking out the man who was considered the pound for pound champion for many years so after that he kind of slacked a little and the sad part is hes known as the "guy that knocked out roy jones jr" but he was simply a great fighter lucky punch or not hands down one of the top 5 light heavy's in the 00's

Tarver is really a tough fighter and often gets bashed here because most people here can't stand him as a person. He never really got the respect he deserved.

Some of the best the sport has produced??? :patsch:patsch:rofl

A shot Jones and a Lt Heavyweight Hopkins??? ok :good

Milkdud was a good fighter and a good champ, but was fortunate to get Jones at the time he did, and for that reason alone is why we're even talking about him now.
