Yes tarver is tough but not consistent enough to truly go down as a great light heavyweight , He's achievment of knocking out Roy jones jnr and crushing jones invinciblilty is Amazing but after that win it's all down hill for tarver a loss to Johnson (although avenged) , Hopkins and a dire performance vs Woods not to mention two defeats to Dawson Puts him in the One hit wonder Club

Not only does that put his supposed achievements into perspective, but Tarver also helped to screw the LHW division into the farce it is today.

Ever since he decided to go on a several year long merry go round of only fighting RJJ and GJ the LHW division was ruined. There was no clear rankings, the titles were split and noone knew who was what.
The up and coming fighters didn't get a chance to prove themselves. It was nothing but a lame circus act where Tarver's and RJJs relevance to the division grew less and less as the merry go rond continued all the while stopping anyone else in the division from competing for the no#1 position.

So not only are Tarver's accomplishments less than stellar when seen in perspective, but his selfishness has left a division as a total joke that noone is interested in anymore. Oh, and he was a dick as well.

Goodbye Tarver, and good riddance. Boxing was good for you, but you were bad for boxing.

People can say what they want about the guy. Tarver is a great example of someone that doesn't quit and had great belief in himself. He had all the odds against him and made a name for himself anyway. He may not be an ATG but he beat the best fighter of this era and knocked him out and he'll always be remembered for that. Infact, he shot him. I give Tarver credit for having the balls to dare push Roy Jones like that. Tarver did good with the little bit of time he had. Big props to him. I'll always be a fan.
