The Tyson KO by far the more impressive. Jones always had a suspect chin. Lou Del Valle put him down and if he had any skill should have stopped him as Jones was on ***** Street.

I don't share the opinion that Jones was in decline entering the Tarver fights, he looked great vs. much heavier Ruiz and faster with extra weight than vs. Tarver, so the cut was the most likely culprit.. Still, Tarver was predictably tough and no one said before the rematch that Roy's reflexes are toast. Had he declined the rematch I don't think he loses for a few yrs. incl. to Glen Johnson, though inevitable someone would've got to that chin. In the end Tarver did, and that punch changed boxing history, and at least for a large group of us, it's was a lighting out of broad daylight and a shocker to our jolts.

Douglas was a 42-1 underdog. It's not even close.

Have to disagree here, Jones was past it after having to drop a ton of weight from heavyweight while Tyson was in his prime. Plus Tarver was regarded far higher than Douglas after arguably beating Jones the first time. Douglas was seen as having absolutely no hope and the fight was considered a formality. His win over Tyson may be the biggest upset in sporting history.

The way Jones was dropped immediately and out, was a shocking decline. As a massive Jones, fan I couldnt believe it. Mike took a beating but I was too young for that to set in. Still Jones getting KO'd

    BigBone,
They were both shocking, but Mike losing was the bigger shock.

Neither of them were at their best, but Roy was 35 and had just dropped back from HW, where he’d had 50 fights. He’d also really struggled in their first fight, looking visibly different than at any other time. Whereas Mike was only 23, going into the ring off of a 1 round stoppage of Carl Williams.

Tarver caught an ageing fighter with the most perfect shot.

James Douglas broke down Mike for 9 rounds.

    It was worldwide news.

Even non boxing fans knew of it and were shocked.

I don't thin they are quite the same. Tarver was a top contender with some solid wins before Jones. Douglass was a HUGE underdog, and rightfully so with his up and down career.

P4P King Jones getting KO'd made worldwide news too, but you're right: not as many headlines. Although counter-intuitively, Douglas being such an underdog in a fight in Japan, I bet 99% of non-regulars never knew that fight was happening in the first place.

Buster is a household name based on that fight. No one outside of boxing fans know who the **** Tarver is.

Iron Mike absolutely was seen as both unstoppable and indestructible. He was well into a reign that nobody thought was going to end...................Iron was still completely in his prime when he was destroyed by Douglas. The Tarver/Roy knockout came on the heels of a fight that a lot of people (not me) thought that Roy lost and was actually beaten up against. Tarver had already pierced Roy's aura of being untouchable because he had literally just touched him for 12 rounds in the first fight. And on top of that Roy had voiced his struggles getting back down in weight and really hadn't even planned on ever going back if not for the fact that Roy's hubris forced him to. The Tarver ko over Roy was nowhere near Buster's ko'ing Iron Mike

Well theres a few arguments one is that Jones was 35 years old, and had looked beatable vs Tarver in their 1st fight when Jones moved down from Heavyweight.

Tyson on the other hand was 23 years old and had shown no real signs of slowing down, and was coming off a brutal 1st round stoppage of Carl Williams.
