From the Scene "A member of the California State Athletic Commission contacted me via text that Antonio Tarver tested positive for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, in his pre-bout drug test. I've been aware of it, but I wanted to make sure I had the go-ahead from the commission to say this, but now it's public information. It's just unfortunate," Feder said. Drostanolone (INN; also known as dromostanolone or Drolban), marketed as Masteron, is an anabolic steroid. Drostanolone is a part of the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) family. Its main medical uses include lowering cholesterol levels and as an antineoplastic agent in the treatment of some cancers. It is most commonly marketed as the ester drostanolone propionate (trade name Masteron). Drostanolone has been used for bodybuilding, though its high cost has made it used mainly in "cutting cycles."
Well to be fair VADA was never around when Floyd signed on with USADA. and IMO they charged him such damn high fees is because he's rich, and quite frankly, they could. My first thought was honestly "They are ripping him off" And it seems that fighters that Floyd fights are getting tested along with him. Which is good. It would have looked BAD if Floyd only stuck with testing for Pac. Also Mosley and Canelo, Ortiz/Berto, Khan/Peterson all GBP events with more stringent testing. They are doing better than everyone else at the moment. But it does need to pick up.
boxing has fully entered the steroid era. it's staggering, the sheer amount of fighters being exposed every couple of weeks.
There is no realistic way to enforce year round testing for many boxers. Those at the very top can afford it but for the majority, it's unfeasible. The BBBoC has a policy whereby they only test the top fighters, and it's not just pre and post fight, which is something I agree with, but I understand that to suggest more than that is unrealistic. The governing bodies should be the ones who demand additional testing, not the fighters, promoters or anyone else. If a fighter wants to fight for a major title, the organization which is putting their title on the line should pay for testing.
:good It's appropriate that Mayweather's nickname is "Money" -- the 43-0 prizefighter made $85 million for two fights to claim the top spot as the world's highest-paid athlete. According to Forbes senior editor Kurt Badenhausen, Mayweather maximized his earnings by also acting as his own promoter through his company, Mayweather Promotions. As a result, he collects all the revenue from tickets, pay-per-view buys and sponsorships while covering the costs, including the purse for his opponent. This content is protected
I would be surprised if USADA over charged Floyd just because he has the money. They are a legitimate business, and has to act so. I don't if anyone else under "Mayweather Promotions" is getting tested. Transparency at a time like this is necessary, and that includes showing what happenes when a HIgh level star has a positive test. GBP has deep pockets, and is in bed w/ HBO. They should be testing anyone who fights on their cards. Which I do believe will eventually come to fruition. Just right now, there's too much secrecy and whispering about.
