Meaningless fight damn rematch clause so Dawson has no choice. I hope Dawson stops Tarver for wasting his time. On a side note the only good thing about this fight is that I'll be able to see Tarver's wife again at ring side.:hey

Terrible fight but Dawson didn't really have any other options, did he? I mean, he wanted the Hopkins-Pavlik winner but Hopkins won't give it to him. Joe won't. PALLE doesn't want Kessler to.

    Dawson via stoppage.

Dawson really has no options at 175. I think he should consider a move down to 168 and terrorize that divison like he's terrorized the 175 pound divison.

I hope Dawson knocks him out, doubt it will happen tho. See another semi-entertaining fight with Dawson winning 10 or 11 rounds.

what is unbeleivable about this rematch is that the first fight, when the outcome was not known, the palm springs casino manged to sell a whopping 300 tickets

let me repeat that 300 tickets combined.

tarver is reported to have said he sold 151 to dawsons fans only buying 149 so he should get an extra $30 for putting more bums on seats.

yet where do they in there infinate wisdom decide to hold the rematch when the result is 95% known.

    yep palm casino las vegas.

you could not make it up.

sadly dawson cannot sell **** to a dung beetle ,despite his talent.
what is it with americans not supporting a fighter like dawson?

mayweather says he is p4p 1
everyone agrees he is a talented fighter who has seen him, or they should if they are not holding a bias.

dawson simply does not have any following of any kind whatsoever who are willing to pay money to watch him live .

    its a shame.

Tarver pitty patty, no power type of boxing against a young Dawson that have not hit his prime yet? Man let's get Tarver the hell outta here. I will watch to hopefully get another glimpse of Tarver's fine ass wife. She sure looks tasty.

It is a shame, and I can sum it up for you in three letters: HBO.

    You are full of ****.

Dawson vs. Tarver was not a "nowhere else to go" scenario at all. Dawson chased Tarver for 18 months at least, and Showtime wanted the fight as badly as he did, bending over backward to encourage Tarver to make the fight. Thus, the rematch clause was tolerated.

The alternative was to dispose of a worthless mandatory bout to take place off of TV. Whatever extra money Dawson would have made, it makes no sense for any young American fighter to go off TV when a very good offer against a name opponent is available at home. American networks want American fighters fighting in America. It's simple economics.

Dawson's profile would not have been raised by fighting Diaconu, because no one in America would have seen it -- and that's where the long-term money is. Getting the Tarver fight wouldn't have been any easier after Diaconu, either, and for all we know Tarver still may have demanded a rematch clause.

The way it happened, Dawson gets the Tarver fight and the subsequent increase in profile and payday, and more importantly he is now fighting on HBO. The fact that he's finally on HBO -- which manufactures stars better than any promoter ever could, just ask Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik -- is worth it, no matter whom his opponent would be.

Breaking the Gary Shaw/Showtime stranglehold -- made easier by the demise of Elite XC -- was a huge step for HBO, which is looking for a promising young American fighter of size.

Your mention of the WBC belt is silly. Dawson is as much a "world champion" now as he was then, and the bottom line is that no one much cares. He does need that title of "world champ" to market himself, but which belt he holds is immaterial. Especially weighed against the criteria I outlined above.

As for his career management, how many 26-year old fighters, non-Olympians at that, can make this claim:

    Harding (top 10)
    Adamek (top 5)
    Johnson (top 5)
Tarver X 2 (top 5, and Chad will still be 26 in March)

And he was all set to fight Diaconu, but Diaconu pulled out. That's an incredible resume for a kid who fought at 160 as recently as 2005!

Some of you people are ****ing dense.
