According to this local story, at least. Does anyone have other information? http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/jan/12/sp-lacy-calls-off-tarver-fight-due-to-shaw/
I believe this works out well for Jeff, who ought to consider a soft touch or two before taking on another dangerous opponent. And I definitely don't think he should move up to 175.
I don't think that he's scared but probably just not ready for this kind of a fight at this point. Does anyone know what the problem between Lacy and Shaw is?, they were close back before the Calzaghe fight. I believe Shaw was telling Birmingham (trainer) to stop the fight.
This would of been the ****ing boringest fight ever. Tarver would of won easy, but god damn would that **** of been boring. Lacy is done.
Well I guess its good for Lacy, he would've been easy pickings for Tarver. Probably good for us because the fight had boring written all over it. The not so good news....Tarver vs tba on Showtime. Here we go again. What local bar is going to see one of its patrons put in there with Tarver this time? Its probably too much to ask for Showtime to get a credible opponent to put in with Tarver this time. Being it is a main event that they are paying good money for. Can we get a Danny Green, Clinton Woods, or Paul Briggs this time around? Or atleast someone of comparable ilk.
I'm not sure and as I recall it wasn't explained all that well when they split. My theory is that Jeff was looking to scapegoat someone for the Calzaghe disaster, as he has been unable to cope with it. And Shaw was correct in telling Birmingham to stop it. That's a whole different thread, but it was a terrible decision by a corner and probably cost Jeff a chance to regain form. Avoiding rounds 10-12 might have made a world of difference to his career.
Jeff was on the show a few weeks ago and we asked him about the rumors of a Tarver bout and he told us in December that he wasnt quite ready for that fight the next time out. I thought it was rather big of him to admit that he wasnt ready yet. He didnt make up excuses - he told it like it was. Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com
Ha ha on the bar patron thing. Also painfully true. I have no idea why Showtime is so enamored of Tarver. He's old, declined, and he doesn't make exciting fights. I'd be happy with any of the opponents you listed, but I prefer Woods. If Woods defeated Tarver (I think he would), that would set up a good payday and main event for Showtime with Dawson vs. Woods in a unification.
