Maybe I didn't get the memo on this, but I really can't see why old Tarver would be a better opponent for Wald then freakin' Mormeck?! :think
They're both equally bad opponents imo, and most people here expected Tarver recently to lose the Danny Green fight wich says enough really.
Tarver is the bigger name because of his LHW feats, but he's far past it now.

Both don't stand a snowball's chance in hell, and both are laughable opponents. But at least Mormeck beat (edged) a couple of decent HW names recently.

    Crap fight, both options.
    :-(

Who else though, no one else left for him to fight other than those who are too scared to fight

Tarver may only be a heavyweight in the movies, but he still he still has that powerful left. Could be Sanders all over again. Or we can pretend it could

..certainly beats Mormeck, which will have very little interest behind it.

total waste of time for Vlad to fight Tarver. Tarver thinks beating Danny Green is like beating a Klitchko at heavyweight?

I figure Wlad must be pretty much fed up with southpaws by now.
I don't remember another HW world champion having to fight so many lefties during their title reign

He says anything to make their next opponent look great choice.

I bet he was talking Chisora up, like he is the next big thing before he lost to Fury

In their primes Milkdud was a much better boxer than JMM (the French JMM - very important distinction :yep) and while they are both pretty far past their prime, Tarver is closer to his effective peak than Mormeck and less shot. Mormeck hasn't clearly/easily defeated a single good heavyweight. The names he has gotten by would have been effortless work for even today's Tarver going by the Aguilera and Green performances. That is not to say Tarver is setting the world on fire or a particularly good HW (he isn't) - it's just that Mormeck and the class he's been mucking around with are the dregs of the division. Tarver has already shown that while he himself is FAR from the elite level of K2, Chambers etc. he has enough left to at least get over on the dregs (as evidenced against Aguilera, who I don't rate at all but who might give Mormeck yet another dull night of hard labor).

Better boxer to begin with, less shot, and less inclined to harbor illusions that his best chance is to punch Wlad out (as I suspect Mormeck may). He's crafty and careful enough to log many more rounds than Mormeck before succumbing to the Steel Hammer..and if he's extremely lucky and minds his p's and q's he might even get to lose on points.

    I pick Tarver.

It's a sign that the heavyweight division has been cleaned when you see light heavyweight and cruiserweights climbing to the heavyweight division. Haye, Adamek, Mormeck, Tarver, now Huck has challenged Vitali. Let's also remember that the last cruiserweight generation was the best ever since the creation of the division.
