Why is it crazy.....is it crazy the WA government supported the Red Bull Air Race, the SA & NT Gov support the supercars, VIC bankrolls the GP.........explain why the concept of a state based government supporting a significant sporting event is crazy?

Apart from the car rally (Tassie Targa) they do in down there, which I only recall because I lived there, is there any other even slightly significant sporting event run in apple picking idiot country?
What an absolute gem of a moment for the Tassie Gov to ride the coat tails of currently on one of our greatest international athletes and a gentleman to boot.

Disgraceful decision by the Tasmanian government.

    Those in-bred dipsh!ts don't deserve 12 senators & they don't deserve Geale.

They'd rather pay through the nose for a football team named after a suburb of Melbourne to play games down there in a domestic competition than support one of their own who is climbing the mountain of a world class sport like boxing.

Those self-serving wankers couldn't even support a referendum to give people in the Territories a vote.

I'd like a vote on whether they should even remain a part of the Commonwealth of Australia.

**** them off permanently & let them fend for themselves like NZ.

Explain to me what the financially strapped Tas gov have to benefit out of a one off boxing event against an unknown opponent?
Glad your not running a state.

Agree...geales win must be one of the highest ranked wins in Tazzie history...let alone Aussie boxing history....don't know why they can't afford $50,000 To celebrate the win with another event :nut

Because that same 500K can be spent much more usefully elsewhere such as 10 teachers to educate 300 students or 5 doctors to treat a 1000 patients.

It is not as if Geale has to go begging in the streets of Hobart for his next feed. He is already rich from boxing and can get richer easily by either fighting in Germany or against Mundine. So why the hell should the Tasmanian government donate $500K to Geale for fighting some tin can? Makes no sense.

If my state government did such a thing Ill be sure to vote against them in the next election.
