This would be an ideal match up for his debut at 168, Mundine's the next best fighter after Kessler and I believe he'd take a good payday vs. Taylor, especially since it'd be his fight to lose stylistically. However, we can expect Taylor to debut versus some relatively known American SMW that's not even in the discussion and then get some serious credit for a subpar victory. I'd personally take Mundine by a 9 to 3 type decision.:good
This is something that all Mundine followers would love to see, unfortunately on current form, this fights not as likely while Mundine is content being a local hero fighting B grade opponents in Aus. I agree with you though Mundine by UD
Since when has he gotten serious credit for a "subpar" victory? I guess beating hopkins twice is "subpar" to you. **** you, and your **** propanganda. Taylor via wide UD or by late KO, Mundine's jaw is far more glass than Taylor's. Have a wonderful morning.
The eye thing has stalled out him advancing to a point, but he really does need to step up. It's not as if Mundine's comp has been bad either, it's been very good and he was thrown in to the wolves early, lately I don't know what's happened, but it's a waste. I do feel if he was offered a Taylor fight he'd take it, Taylor's not much of a threat to him like some of the SMW's would be and Taylor would also give an HBO spot and a big purse. On the flipside, since Mundine is considered such a joke from the American perspective, Taylor's team might want this as they feel that they could beat him easily and then establish a good win over a top SMW.
Spinks and Ouma are constantly mentioned as resume marks for Taylor, those are two very subpar victories and subpar performances at that. Taylor has a lot of trouble with quick movers, Mundine has some power to top that off and good boxing skills/defence. I promise you that he'd make Taylor more tenative than he was against Spinks just on the notion that he brings speed and slickness with real SMW punching power also. Just put on a pot of coffee, even though it's nearly time for bed.:think
Apart from the American disrespect that may draw in Mundine as a stepping stone fight for Taylor, there's actually an element of decline in Mundine's recent performances that would wet the appetite of any prospective opponents. Having said that, this could also work in Mundine's favour as the major problem for Mundine stems from his lack of constant intensity and work rate during fights in recent times. Doing only enough 'just to win'. A fight with the likes of Taylor, you would think, would spark Mundine and IMO bring out the performance of is career.
I get the feeling Mundine may be on the decline, after seeing one of his last fights live... He would want to step it up quickly...
You make excellent points mate, but you have to consider Mundine's inconsistency. He is highly unpredictable, especially now that he is getting older... I wouldn't be overly confident about this one, put it that way. I have a mate over here who used to work for one of the local promoters... He was saying that apparently Choc has been having more trouble then he used to sparring some of the local talent. It wouldn't suprise me if his best days are behind him. He looks slower on his feet more so then anything. Hand speed seems to be the last thing to go.
Could be why he's fighting such crap comp, but also could be a play off of his eye injury and building back up. Either way, the Mundine of the Nieves and Soliman fights win a wide UD over Taylor, I can't imagine him becoming shot this soon completely. But I've been surprised in the past.
