Oh please. If there was a way it could have been given to Taylor, you know HBOs judges would have come through for the hype, just like they did when he lost to Hopkins and Wright.
Ridiculous, considering HBO had already adopted Pavlik as their new golden boy the instant Taylor hit the canvas in their first fight.
Bernard lost the first Taylor fight won the 2nd but they could have went either. And seriously, do you think it's a coincidence that Larry Merchant nut-hugs Pavlik every time he gets a chance?
Does he? I'll have to pay more attention. I thought his only love in the world was Manny Pac, but that was after he had broke up with SSM because Forrest won. <---- Merchant looked like somebody let a "egg" fart..
Pfffft. Are you kidding me man? He was in good enough shape to dominate an over thee hill Jeff Lacy, but no way did he look as sharp in that fight as he did in his last fight with Kelly Pavlik. Now that version of Jermain was without a doubt the best I've ever seen him look, bar none. Hell, the version which was knocked out by Pavlik looked better than the won who beat Lacy. Jermain was clearly not in top form versus Lacy how can you not see that?! Are you that gullable that the HBO commentators actually convinced you that he looked that good?
I had it for JT too not a controversial decision but dont listen to these Pavlik fanboys and Taylor haters that Pavlik clearly won and Taylor was just trying to survive
I agree he was at his best in the 2nd Pavlik fight which I thought Jermaine won. But he did have a long lay-off before Lacy and he didn't fall back into the bad habits he had shown before the 2nd Pavlik fight. I don't think he was tired as he used to get either. I understand if you don't think he was exceptionally sharp but I thought he was still much better technically, even against Lacy.
I gotta say that in the Lacy fight, Taylor looked about as underconditioned physically as I've ever seen him. Just look at his midsection; not just his abs but his back as well. He wasn't flabby by any means, just not quite as cut as you'd like to see him. It looked more like he just cut 8 lbs less fat than usual, instead of working to add extra muscle in order to better position himself in the bigger weight class. Reports from training camp had him at 180ish toward the beginning of camp and 170ish as much as two weeks before the fight, much too early to be that close to the 168 lb limit. IIRC he rehydrated to 174 on the day of the fight while Lacy was at 180. That may have worked against Lacy but won't fly against someone like Kessler who will push Jermain's conditioning to the limit.
Kessler no doubt is the toughest fight at 168 for Jermaine. I'd like to see both fight in title fights then fight each other. That would make a fight to unify 3 titles. Maybe Taylor/Froch then Kessler/Bute and I see Taylor and Kessler winning to make a great showdown. I favor Kessler by a little at this point but it would be a great fight.
Between the JT vs. Pavlik and the Calz vs. BHop fights; I don't know why people keep saying that JT and BHop won. Pavlik won by a few rounds on my scorecard 117-111 or 116-112 IMO; which was the same as two of the other judges. Calz won by a few rounds on my scorecard 116-111 or 115-112 IMO; which was the same as two of the other judges. There is so much controversy on ESB about these fights. They were easy fights to score. The right fighters got the nod. The worst part about this is that black woman gave BHop the nod, and I think that's where we have the chain reaction of BHop got screwed for the whole "white boy comment"
I had Calzaghe by 115-112. I had Taylor 115-113. I have no idea how anyone could score for Pavlik like those 2 judges did in the 2nd fight. 116-112 or 117-111 for Pavlik is disgraceful. Taylor landed way more clean effective jabs and about all Pavlik could land was a jab. You're wrong about Hopkins/Calzaghe being easy to score. It takes a lot of attention to find a winner in a lot of those rounds.
117-111 for Pavlik in the second Taylor fight is crazy. If you don't see Taylor winning more than 3 rounds in that fight, you are either biased and giving every remotely close round to Pavlik, or simply value workrate over who's landing the cleaner, more effective blows.
I am a Pavlik fan, but yes, I agree with you.. I was actually at the fight at the MGM, I was nervous as hell.. because I saw it Even at the start of the 11th. But I definitely gave both the 11th and 12th to Pavlik, giving him the fight.
