Yeah. Downthebottle doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. I scored Pav/Taylor a draw as did ESPN and Round15. And I even made a decent points-handicap bet on Pavlik that I was sure I lost when the final bell rang. Fortunately the biased judges bailed me out and for the first (and probably last) time I won a bet that I deserved to lose.
Someone made a very good point somewhere in this thread. Palvik lands harder punches. Taylor lands prettier punches. Do you score a half dozen 'shoe shine' body punches the same way you score a more damaging blow?
That's an opinion, not a point. The only time it's clear Pavlik landed harder was the body punch in the 11th that clearly hurt Taylor.
Same here. Close fight that probably could've gone either way IMO. Pavlik was given the benefit of the doubt for his aggressiveness and his closing finish.
Yes, but maybe that was the judges opinion? Personally, I don't score fights. I just go by 'feel' since my opinion doesn't count any how. When the outcome goes to the judges, there is usually room for debate.
I will take Pavlik in a rematch at 168. We might see that fight one day. I had Pavlik winning the second one.
After the way Taylor handles himself after the fight, I almost hate to think of another fight between these guys.
There was no controversey after the fight, and any that comes up now is manufactured by haters. When the scores were announced my brotherinlaw and I both thought 117-111 was to wide. I had it 116-112, but after watching the fight 4 times, 117-111 isn't a bad score. 115-113 was WAY to close.
Taylor's power punches to me are much more powerful than Pavlik's jab which mostly was what he landed in contrast. Taylor won the fight and he would win had 168. Pavlik is too slow above 160 which is one of the reasons I picked Hopkins to beat him.
Yeah he didn't complain and try to discredit Pavlik. I like that. Even if a fight could go either way I get sick of fighters whining about decisions. You just accept it and go for revenge. At least that's what real champions do.
