This content is protected Huge blow for Sky as this was supposed to be a PPV. I hope Catterall can get an interim fight in the meantime anyway.
I’m not saying he isn’t injured,I’m sure he is but what a waste of his prime years. Clearly has been paid enough in his career to be able to hang around, doing nothing for months and months. Also, is it possible that long periods of inactivity lead to more training injuries? There’s so many pull outs these days, they are the norm not the exception. I’m not saying you’ve got to be as active as Sugar Ray Robinson but Eubank and Benn snr seemed to be able to fight every 3 months without getting injured. Lennox Lewis and Naz too.
There are stories about our man that he's not as committed to the life as he should be and maybe gets naughty from time to time. Something like Cattarell was always going to happen and maybe we're seeing a continuation of that here. But these are all "my cousin's step-sister saw..." so who knows.
and some are much more injury prone than Taylor I'm not sure what your point is. He suffered an injury and has had some injury problems
I've had plantar fascia tear before during a competition. There's no way he is sparring for 3 months with that. It's so painful and a bugger to heal as it can go again when you start putting anything on it again. Hope he heals up soon. I also hope Catterall takes a fight in the interim, inactivity will derail his career further if he doesn't.
Posters on this forum and others have regularly said that, since this fight was announced, it wouldn’t happen, particularly so soon after Christmas and New Year. Obviously I don’t know either fighter but, ultimately, a fair number of people were right. You’re right to say that there are others who are more prone to pulling out but my point is simply that considering todays boxers have so much more ‘rest’ than the participants in other eras, they do get injured a lot, across the board and I wondered if all the down time might have something to do with it.
He definitely doesn’t live the life. Likes a drink and a bit of fun, and puts a bit on between fights. I do think the injury is legitimate. He knows he needs to be 100% here and won’t enter the ring any less than that
After the Ramirez win went too wild, put a lot of weight on which I think contributed to his original injury. He's been in quite a few tough fights at the top level, when your getting tight at the weight you can't be anything but in good condition all the time. All adds to the mileage, however I do think he probably messed weight up more with Davidson for the Catterall fight. If this fight does go on, he's going to struggle with weight with that injury also imo, more and more stacking in Catterall's favour should the fight go ahead. Will be two years since the Ramirez fight and he will have fought once. He's 32 now and presumably 33 soon. Saying that, Catterall needs to ideally fight also to shake some of the rust off, he at least seems to keep mostly in shape and no big injuries.
