I'm a huge Pavlik fan and was excited that Taylor took the rematch as I thought there was no way he could change all the mistakes and short comings in such a short time. I was completely wrong, his hands were high, he didn't back to the ropes, and he didn't go out and expand a lot of energy being nervous like the first fight. In fact, he proved he is still an elite fighter. Just by taking the fight, he proved he wants to fight the best and after the the fight he earned me as a fan by not sitting there and gripping about the decision, he gave Pavlik his due and didn't want to take away glory like Hopkins did to him. What a humble fighter and great competitor. I had Pavlik winning by the last two rounds. A great tactical battle showing Pavlik's workrate is going to be hard to beat and he is more than just a banger. Props to both and I look forward to seeing both fighters futures
Ive always been a fan of Taylor despite the bashing that several well regarded posters on this forum have given him. He beat Hopkins both times. Even if you though Hopkins won only a mad man would contend that either fights were robberies. To me Taylor won more convincingly the 2nd time round as well. I respected him for that as it kept the middleweight titles lineal status intact as from what i remember there was much speculation as to which road Hopkins was going to go down at that time either retirement or moving up the divisions. Also, the draw against Wright was not highway robbery at all. I enjoyed the fight and thought it was a fair result that could have went either way. Probs to Taylor for taking such a tough fight as well...WW was hardly a desirable opponent for most. Even in his 'freebie' fights he took on former world champs in Ouma and Spinks....i don't see Hopkins getting ragged when two of his marquee wins are against former welters so why Jermain? Then he takes on Pavlik. Say what you want about the guy but he has consistently for the past few years taken on the best opponents available to him even if you are not a fan of him as a person or his style.
agreed mate. i would not say i was a huge fan before the fight. but i will be from now. great guy and put up a great fight
I agree. I think Taylor improved in that fight. I want to see more of Taylor and, actually, less of Pavlik, after that fight...:think
Taylor can go to hell and never come back. That's what I think, earned ZERO respect from me. Just because he did better against a sloppy, overrated Kelly Pavlik, doesn't mean it erases everything that he has represented and everything he and his kind has stained about the sport.
Agree with Amsterdam to a point ^^, still think Pavlik is overrated/ordinary. I think Taylor improved a lot from the first fight, but he still needs to think more in the ring, work harder, and impose himself on his opponent more, he gave the fight away by letting Pavlik plod forward and throw his jab, because thats all the fight was won on.
Could not agree more! He did his homework preparing for this fight and greatly improved, just not enough. At the end of the fight my first impression was should have Taylor went for broke in the first three rounds? With faster hand speed and using combinations from different angles may have worked. But had to be done before he starts to fade.
totally agree, taylor has tried his best to be a true champion ever since his first fight with Hopkins. He couldve taken his first Hopkins victory and taken on the Duddy's and Masoe's of the world for a few years, but regularly fought the best contenders.
No, she'd have been put off by his total lack of basic intellect. I trust her. But I'll tell you what, the thought of that.... yikes, I don't know what I'd do. Taylor taking more of my soul day by day.
Why do I have the feeling Amsterdam voted for Bute against Taylor and Pavlik because he HATES the way Taylor was overrated and the way Pavlik is overrated on the back of 2 wins over him...
I voted for Bute because Bute is a superior fighter to those two overrated shysters. There is no doubt about it. Fighters like Taylor and Pavlik get to fight on a circuit that gets massive acclaim, but also get to avoid any danger that doesn't bring a payday. Luckily for both, the MW division is weak. Even B level SMW's will starch either, Bute being a B+ fighter at SMW has an easy night with both.
Do you really think a guy who barely scrapes by Cory Spinks is going to deal with a BIGGER speedy southpaw with size and power advantages? Not to mention the fact that Bute has a proven great chin is absording bombs from Bika and Berrio and not even BLINKING. What the **** is Taylor going to do? Bute's straight left is going to land at will.
When he said that he would not stoop to bhop's level of belly aching in the post fight, he immediately got my respect.
