Carl Froch looks set to meet American Jermain Taylor in the first defence of his WBC super-middleweight crown.

Mick Hennessy, Froch's promoter, told the BBC he has spoken to the Taylor camp about a contest in either the United Kingdom or the United States.
"It's a fight that me and Carl have always wanted," said Hennessy.
"I was pleased to get a call off Taylor's promoter, Lou DiBella. He said to me he just wanted to go on record that he is ready to make the fight."
Froch, 31, became world champion by outpointing Canadian Jean Pascal in a thrilling fight in Nottingham on Saturday. "I've had my heart set on Jermain Taylor because he beat Jeff Lacy and I just assumed that was going to be the natural progression for the first defence," Froch, who has 24 wins from 24 fights, told Radio 5 Live.

Taylor, 30, is a former undisputed middleweight champion and has two victories over Bernard Hopkins to his name.
Nicknamed "Bad Intentions", he has lost two of his last three contests - both defeats coming against Kelly Pavlik - but he outpointed Lacy in his last fight in an eliminator for the WBC super-middleweight belt.
Hennessy added: "We are not averse going to the US but it's got be on the right terms. Carl's the champion now and a champion-challenger split is 70-30. We are in control of the situation. If it makes sense going to the US, we'll go there." Froch has talked of fighting Joe Calzaghe, but the unbeaten Welshman, who once held the belt that now belongs to Froch, looks as though he will carry out his threat to retire in the new year

The 36-year-old, who has won all of his 46 fights, also insists he will not take on Froch if he decides to continue his career.
"He has nothing to offer me," Calzaghe told Radio 5 Live. "I would knock the guy out, so why would I fight him? It doesn't mean anything.
"He wants a pay day and I'm not going to give him one because I don't like the guy.
"I judge people how they perform in the ring. His mouth is interesting but nothing in his performance is interesting as far as I am concerned." Froch hit back at those comments, questioning Calzaghe's state of mind and insisting that if they did meet he would knock the Welshman out

From his comments and the stuff he's said, I don't want to be horrible but I think he's a little bit thick, Joe Calzaghe, I really do," said Froch. "His comments are just absolutely ridiculous so he must be a little bit stupid.

"He talks about fighting Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr but has he forgotten that Bernard Hopkins is 43 and well, well passed his best.
"He got beat by Bernard Hopkins in not just my opinion but in my other people's opinion, including one of the judges on the night.
"Roy Jones Jr is 39-years-old - I would have taken more pride in refusing a fight with Roy Jones Jr because the guy shouldn't be fighting.
"He says he will knock me out in three rounds but Joe Calzaghe doesn't knock anybody out lately - he slaps for 12 rounds, and against both of his last two opponents he got decked in the first round. "If I deck him in the first round I'm not going to let him off the hook. If anyone's going to get knocked out in three rounds it's him."

Calzaghe says his future will be decided by January or February once he has considered all his options.
"This is a not a decision you can make overnight," he said. "I've done this sport for 25 years. It's a long, long, long time to do something and just to give up overnight.
"No matter what common sense says, I have to know in my heart that I will let go. That's something that's going to be decided in the next few months. "I don't think I'm going to fight again, but I'm not sure."

. So froch thinks he is going to be fighting Taylor and the split is going to be 70-30 in his favor?

That doesn't mean they are close to an agreement. They just have begun the negociations. Everything can happen. A few weeks ago, Taylor's promoter said he wanted Bute but nothing happened. Let's wait. If Froch fights Taylor, Bute wil probably fight Larsen, Kessler Perdomo (I hope I'm joking). Maybe ater, big fights will happen.

    great news.

i think froch will win this.

much better stamina and toughness than taylor.

taylor is strong early and might be ahead by halfway.

    it won't last though. :nono

I think Taylor wins this easy, he will land much more clean shots on Froch that Pascal did and Froch does not have the power of Pavlik. It was really anoyying when Froch was saying he did not call Calzaghe out as much now on Bunce's boxing hour because he has never stopped calling Calzaghe out since about his 14th fight which is just pathetic, I would like the guy other wise but he really is not that good of a fighter.

Froch has done a bit of a Witter on Calzaghe. He's talked too much about a fight that his opponent doesn't want and he sometimes doesn't deserve. Witter deserved the Hatton fight more than Froch deserves a Calzaghe fight. At no point has a Froch fight really been worth it unless to replace a **** fight like Ashira, Manfredo etc Even now Froch doesn't deserve it.

Calzaghe cleared up 168, it is behind him now. Joe needs to look towards 175 which means Dawson then retire.

Froch has to fight Taylor so he should be happy with that as an elite fight.

Taylor is a very good fight for Froch, i don't know why he bothers challenging Calzaghe though. He just hasn't earnt it.
His remarks about Calzaghe's recent fights though are spot on. To be fair Hopkins is still very good, but both are past it and RJJ shouldn't have even got in the ring in that state. The idea that Calzaghe can now claim to have these two wins as a legacy is laughable. If i slapped Henry Cooper or someone round for 36 minutes I wouldn't then brag about it. Calzaghe needs to let these old timers collect their free bus passes and retire, and fight a couple more meaningful fights - Dawson etc.

Froch is as big a puncher as Pavilk, probably more so as he's a genuine SuperMiddle, and Taylor couldn't stand up to Pavilk. No way will the stay at home ***** Taylor come to Britain. He turned down $6m to face Calzaghe in Wales a couple of years ago and I can't see Froch being able to offer more than that.If it goes to purse bids and hennessy wins it, Taylor will give up his no1 status
