I think the problem is all of the above. "Makes Pavlik look like Willie Pep":rofl I gotta give ya that one. Made me laugh out loud!
I admire Lacy for the balls and determination he showed in taking such a beating from Calzaghe. Now he's in for another beating against a Jermaine Taylor who probably needs to prove himself again. The fact that JT is not a huge puncher will make the torture all that worse.RIP Jeff Lacy you poor *******
damn! i kinda dont want this fight as i do like lacy..... and i like taylor too, someones gonna have to lose. too bad... Ill be rooting for Lacy maybe.... not quite sure yet ill wait. But... i am def picking Taylor to outbox Jeff early, and put the hurt on him late.... i really dont see Jeff winning this fight.
I saw a few of rounds of last nights fight. Am I the only one who didn't think Lacy looked "horrible." Lacy definitely won all of the rounds I watched (tho some were close and obviously I didn't see the couple where he was definitely in trouble) and he threw a lot of punches (the majority were hard and pretty accurate --but few effective combos). He's got until November to up his stamina and do the best fine tunning he can. I don't see this as a total mismatch or a slaughter.
"People act like the Ouma and Spinks fights were the norm for JT, but they were not." Yeah good point, keep in mind though Taylor was planning to fight Sergio Mora before that fight fell through (Mora probably woulda been a gimme, but who knows at this point) but some people dunno the facts that Abraham and even Felix Sturm wanted no part of Taylor so he had to turn to other opponents Taylor did kind of disappoint me with his efforts in the Spinks and Ouma fights, but I'll give him tremendous credit for going up against Pavlik back to back even though he came up short in both tries. he can get 1 free pass by facing Lacy. and im damn sure he'll go after Kessler or even Froch like you say, he'll wanna make noise, and what better way? get in a title fight. look at Taylor vs Lacy as a confidence booster so to speak. **if you didn't think Lacy looked bad, watch after round 5, he noticeably tired and a more accurate puncher would have him out of there inside 8 .. maybe even in 2 rounds if successfully following up on punches when given chance. (watch that 2nd round and you'll see what i mean.) **rounds 2 and 8 were where Lacy was hurt the most, he even fell into and tackled his opponent during the 8th round.
The saddest part about this fight is that even if Lacy caught JT flush, it probably won't effect him and that's his only chance. I mean he connected flush a bunch of times against Mendoza and Mendoza wasn't even hurt. Heck, not even stunned outside of a couple. Lacy has zero power.
Taylor doesn't have a KO since before the Hopkins fights, but he could get one and add a name to his resume at the same time here. It's been said many times before, but Lacy is D-O-N-E.
Taylor took the fight? Why doesn't he just go and beat up on a woman or an infant or something. Lacy is clearly in no condition.
Was anyone else very surprised when Lacy connected on Mendoza flush time and time again and it had no effect? You wonder where his power went. Obviously, one look at his body and he's got the powerful build. You just wonder.
There is a difference between being shot and being a never was, Lacy fits into the never was category. The essence of being shot means you once had the goods which Lacy never had. This guy struggled with Manfrdo FFS. The same Manfredo that was had by Alphonso Gomez in the Contender.
He was alot better pre Calzaghe than he is now, he was exciting to watch and did produce good fights now watching his fights is like having your teeth drilled.
Exactly. Lacy can win this fight if he gets to Taylor in the first few rounds. Taylor is, imo, very overrated, and not as much better than Lacy. Lacy's gone downhill, sure - but if catches Taylor early he can win this fight.
