His skills are nothing amazing overall. Getting KO'd is one thing, but you don't get your ass outpointed and outboxed for long periods by Kelly Pavlik if you are amazingly skilled. Defence is a skill in itself, and Taylor does not excel in it. He's offensively gifted and athletic.
In theory this sounds good. Scary proposition? Sure it is. Its the fear of being outboxed by Taylor not killed by him. In my opinion the verdict is still out on Kessler....Now he has the ability to choose his opponent...If he chases and gets the big fights I will be proven wrong about Kesslers confidence and mental strength. However if he continues to fight cabdrivers by choice, I will no doubt be proven correct
If he's trying to get a fight against the only guy that beat him, I can't question his mental strength. He's trying to face up to his demons there. Also Hopkins, who has already exposed one up and coming younger fighter. I don't think it was by choice he fought Haussler etc. I mean of course he gets in the ring to fight, but I think he was perhaps wrongly listening to the guidance of his management in picking up the belt. He sounded annoyed after the Haussler fight it was such an easy challenge.
Well, he knocked down Pavlik in round 2 in Pavlik-Taylor I and almost put him away if he wasn't gassed. He also TKO'd Raul Marquez. Marquez is at least "half decent"...I would say Marquez is better than Tsypko, Manfredo, or Mendoza (AKA the 3 bums lacy has squeaked decisions over in last 3 fights)
You don't squeak by manfredo, tsypko, and mendoza if you expect to compete w/ Jermain Taylor (who has hung in there with top p4ps of the sport)
His power is not even there anymore.... He could not KO Peter "Too Afraid to Fire back" Manfredo for **** sakes.
Lets see how Taylor is at 168 before we start saying that he gonna beat Kessler's Ass, who is proven at 168. That being said, I really really want to see Kessler vs Taylor, I think it would be a very exciting fight and a potential Fight of the Year... Both guys have great jabs and great speed... and neither clinch a lot. I am not gonna make a prediction until I see how Taylor is at 168, although as of now I would lean toward Kessler
If Taylor can beat Lacy, then Taylor-Kessler is the fight Taylor should aim for. I am already psyched up for that fight.:bbb :bbb :bbb
