Absolutely, one of the most entertaining fights of the last few years and the peak of Pavlik.

I think it's just as good (if not better) than both of those fights.

its painful for me as a huge pavlik fan to see where he was and where he has allowed himself to get.

but yes, a modern classic for sure.

as a huge pavilk fans whats your thoughts on this

“I always wanted Kelly with (Kenny) Adams because I think he would have been great,” Dunkin said. “Yes, Pavlik won the title. But those hard fights with (Jermain) Taylor and (Edison) Miranda, he gutted them out. But how good could he have been if he could have stepped to the side, used angles, moved his head, all those things Kenny teaches? My God, he could have been special. That’s what makes me sick.”

I sat up all night waiting for Pavlik-Taylor, only cause I'd been drinking, I fell asleep, only I woke up just as Taylor got knocked out, my bro and his mate were over having a few beers and my bro's mate saw the whole fight, I was like, what? Taylor got knock out? no way!

It was only next morning that I caught the replay and was able to experience what a great fight I'd missed

Cam has never been afraid to speak his mind. The thing is...as much as people may think otherwise...for those who have followed kelly since his early days, he didnt come up from his early pro days as the "double the ****ing jab" kind of fighter as many like to make fun of him for being. he actually used to move a helluva lot more than he does now. he is basically a product of what he has allowed himself to become. whether that's his choice of lifestyle or way he approaches fighting...

i've never been big on the loew bashing. i think he catches too much ****. but the fact remains he didnt always fight the way he does now.

just watch a fight from his early days around '02-'03 and then watch him just plow forward and go to war the last few years. its a pretty stark difference.

bottom line is he could have (and i still think can be) much better than he's shown. so cam definetly has a point.

Taylor v Pavlik 1 was great because it was a complete shock. No one thought Pavlik would be on his ass and all but 'out' that early (and make no mistake, had that fight not been a major championship fight it might very well have been stopped). And no one thought that Taylor would get stopped that brutally. The only recent fight I can think of with a greater WTF moment was the recent near beheading of Paul Williams.

Well when Pavlik tko Taylor in the first fight, i didn't make any excuses even though Taylor was weight drain but still back then i shut my mouth and gave props to Pavlik. But since booradley never once gave Martinez props for beating Pavlik cause Pavlik was weight drain. If he wants to go that way then f4ck it Pavlik tko a weight drain Taylor.

Hell Pavlik beat both Miranda and Taylor that those 2 were both weight drains.

Hopefully Pavlik gets away from the druggies and bad people, maybe he can come back. You just shouldn't be boozing when you're a pro athlete, it's a shame.

Definitely a classic. Both undefeated and fighting for the undisputed MW championship of the world. A great, great fight.

The cool thing about Pavlik/Taylor 1 was that it encapsulated so many aspects of boxing.

    Undefeated champion vs Underfeated challenger

Established star vs little known blue collar kid

    Legendary trainer vs unknown trainer

World class experience vs world class hunger

First 3 rounds = pier six brawl

Rounds 4 and 5 = tactical boxing match

    Rounds 6 and 7 = ass whoopin'

How many of you guys are aware that Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik are two of only five men in history who won the true middleweight championship while still undefeated?

Pavlik/Taylor 2 was not as sensational, but both men actually fought a smarter and tactically better fight. How many of you ever stopped to think about the fact that Pavlik is the only man who ever out pointed Taylor, and KP did it while JT was still pretty near his peak?
