I'm picking Jermain ALL THE WAY for this. No question in my mind who the better fighter is, its just wether Taylor will fight smart of fight dumb.

Better skills, faster hands, better combination puncher, fitter, sharper, faster feet. The only think I say Pavlik has over Taylor is heart and punching power, and guts and a punch may win you one fight against a world champion (ie Hasim Rahman...) but you'll pay in the rematch.

    KO for Taylor.

I think Taylor comes into this rematch with alot of fear. Deep down, in his primary process, he knows he was left a defenseless hulk in the corner- obliterated by this man, and knocked unconcious. You can't shake the fear when it's in the core of your brain. He's going to be scared as hell.
Shades of Liston-Patterson here. I think Kelly nails him again.

I thought Winky and BHOP won those fights. The Winky fight in particular I thought he won going away.

And yes, with no defense, a suspect jab that you abandon at a moments notice, poor footwork and wild swinging punches, that to me = Average.

Yet more evidence of his staus as an average fighter.

It doesn't matter who you think won, they were all three close fights. (IMO, Taylor won all three but I could live with three draws or three narrow defeats)

It doesn't change the fact that they were close fights.

The INESCAPABLE logic of that is that a) Taylor is very good or b) Winky and BHop are average.

You can't have it both ways.

If HBO and Lou Dibella had not bought those decisions, JT would have faded into obscurity long ago.

Fights can be close but clear. Proper scoring is what is required.

No one could have 'bought' the decisions if Bernard had been capable of a clear victory.

I've scored hundreds (maybe thousands) of fights over the last 40 odd years and I was a fan of Bernard (ever since he win me a bit of money in the predictable defeat of Tito) but not yet a fan of Taylor.

I was expecting BHop to cruise to a relatively easy victory. He did not. He lost a close fight. He did better the second time, and as I said, it could have gone either way, but most unbiased observers did not dispute the decision.

Either way, Taylor proved that he was the approximate equal of that version of Bernard. (IMO, prime Bernard would have prevailed).

So to denigrate Taylor is to denigrate Bernard.

And as for conspiracy, you (and many others on here are paranoid if you believe that HBO would be involved in such criminal behaviour.

You seem like a reasonable dude. Think of the risk/reward ratio and the near imposibility of keeping such an arrangement a secret.

    No, not necessarily.

Like beauty competitions and figureskating and many other ventures where a degree of opinion is required to score (unlike football or basketball), the closer the fight, the less clear the decision.

    Both fights were close.
