Many of us have been trying to make heads or tails out of why Taylor would have wanted the re-match at 166 and not for the Titles.......then today I was thinking about it and it finally hit me= MONEY.

    1. Taylor knew if there was to be a re-match it would mean he lost the first one. It is usually standard that in a TITLE match the CHAMPION gets 70% of the purse, while the challenger gets 30%.

    2. If the re-match is a NON-Title fight that means Taylor gets a lot more money.

    3. The only way Pavlik would agree to a catch weight would be below 168 since he would be officially fighting in a different weight class SMW and he may jeopardize being stripped of his MW titles.

What do you guys think??? I think this hits the nail on the head.:deal

Nah, it's only if the fight goes to a purse bid. Otherwise most title fights, esp. a rematch like this would go no worse than 60-40 even at 160 pounds with a title on the line.

Only if the fight goes to a purse bid is the split 75-25 in favor for the champion, and thats WBC that mandates that rule.

I think Taylor can't make 160 as comfortably as he'd like.

:think So is it your opinion the only reason Taylor took the re-match at 166 w/o any titles on the line is truly because he couldn't make the weight?

    Thanks for the reply.

Thiis is proof that the younger generation of fighters like in all the other sports think they are bigger than sport by not honoring traditionalism. Taylor said that Pavlik took something from him well your not going to get it back even if you win.

Right. That why there is the riddle of why even re-match the man if not for the titles?? (Not to mention at a weight that is in-between classes). Why in the hell would he want back in there with Pavlik without even the chance of regaining his world titles?:deal

    Pride or bragging rights??
Make the new MW champion (which Pavlik will still be win or lose) look like a loser?

    Thanks for your reply.

Where's KG, Decebal, Amsterdam, Shake, and other experts when you need them? I think I may have touched a good point on this issue and want to hear what the ESB big dogs think?

PS: Thanks to those who have replied.

Taylor is pretty muscular, he has probably been stripping muscle to get himself down to 160, frankly I dont know how Pavlik can do it either.
